Cupcakes??

Hi there! I have always wanted to have cupcakes at my wedding but I'm not sure how to incorporate them. I have a friend who is starting her own baking business and she makes the most amazing cupcakes (S'mores, French Toast, Red Velvet, etc) and I would love to have them however I don't know what to do about a wedding cake? Do I get a small cake that we cut and then have people go pick our their unique cupcake? Anyone have any ideas, advice? Thanks! :)

My FI and I are doing cupcakes. We're doing a cupcake tree with the top tier being a small 6 inch cake, which we will cut, meaning we will not be saving our top tier. Some people who do end up doing cupcakes prefer to have two small tiers so they can save their top tier for their 1st ann. We also are having different flavors so there is something for everyone.

My FI & I are also having cupcakes instead of a tiered wedding cake.  We'll also have a cupcake tree.  For the cake cutting we're going to cut an oversize cupcake.  We had the option of cutting either an oversize cupcake, a normal sized cupcake, or a small 6" cake.  We chose three different flavors to give our guests some variety.

It sounds like your friend makes some very delicious flavors!  A lot of couples are choosing to have cupcakes as their wedding cake.

We are having cupcakes. We will probably do two smaller cuts. One to cut into and one to save for our 1st anniversary. Not sure yet! I'm all about a french toast flavored cupcake though!

We are trying to decide between Bethel Bakery and Bella Christies. I love the mango filling from Bethel.

How will you have your guests obtain their cupcakes? Will you cut your cake and then make an announcement for guests to pick their flavor? I'm struggling with how to make this flow if I'm using cupcakes... a friend of mine said to have the caterer serve them (like they would wedding cake) but with the different varieties to choose from I think that would be difficult?
Also, are you still having a cookie table since you will be serving cupcakes?

Thanks for all the help/advice!! :)

Most cupcake trees I've seen have just allowed guests to grab them buffet style so they can pick whatever flavor(s) they want. Guess it depends on the style of your wedding (very formal versus more casual). I believe Martha Stewart magazine had these very cute cupcake tiers showing individual cupcakes at each place setting but I can only imagine what kind of bill those would run for a medium or large wedding!

I was just at a wedding on Saturday where cupcakes were used (Vanilla Pastry Studio- YUM) and the bride and groom just fed each other a cupcake. They didn't "cut" the cake exactly, but it was still really cute. After that the guests were told to just come up and grab some cupcakes. She did still have a cookie table also. It looked super cute and the cupcakes were AMAZING. she had chocolate-chocolate, vanilla-vanilla, and banana cake with chocolate frosting. Highly recommend Vanilla Pastry Stuido!
