Spinoff: Registry Items Pricing

Re: Spinoff: Registry Items Pricing

  • Hmmm our $350 pots and pans set was actually the third gift we received, from my parents' best friends. They wanted to throw our rehersal dinner but we moved the wedding far away, so they wanted to do something nice.

I don't really side-eye any registry items unless everythign is over $200. (ok, one friend does have a registry like this and i did side-eye it and send a link to another friend)....

The registry for me has been a crapshoot - I registered for a swarovski cyrstal pen set, just becasue it was ridiculously beautiful and i figured i could use the registry discount to buy it myself, and I got it as a shower gift from two friends. Frankly, I'd rather have that than anything for my kitchen.
  • It entirely depends on your crowd. Some people will really never spend more than 50$ on a shower gift, while others don't blink at $400 pots and pans. I know my family is generous with both showers and weddings. Cash is generally given at the wedding, and the shower gifts are pretty generous. I don't think anyone spent less than $50.00, with most people spending around the $175.00 mark. We received our kitchenaid as an engagement gift from my MIL,  a le creuset from my friend for the engagement, and a lot of other awesome stuff from the shower. Our pots and pans were $350 but were bought by a group.

The highest priced items are our crystal and china. We haven't received any crystal and only one place setting of china. I knew it was expensive and a long shot, bc while my group doesn't mind spending money, it does usually end up being on more useful items than on purely beautiful things like china and crystal. However, I love my china and at $185 a setting, I know it is pricey. Maybe we will get it, maybe not. I might collect it for myself over time.

I don't think I'd really side eye anything on a registry. Maybe something like a mattress, but even then its only bc I have been conditioned to think its unusual, not bc I really have a problem with it. People need furniture, so even though its not traditional I don't judge.
