You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • The Linguist in me was very excited until I took the quiz.  According to the quiz I have a "North Central" accent.  No I do not.  I was born and raised in CA and I don't have a Canadian accent.  I found it funny that it said I had a prominent accent since Californian accents are pretty easy to understand.  In Germany we were told that our accent was the easiest to understand.  I think I pronounce words differently in tone not so much vowel sound.

I agree with merry sounding different then marry and Mary.

Accents are so fascinating.  They change so quickly.  I watched a really interesting documentary on the Boston accent and how even now it is changing and developing into something different.

  • This is awesome, thanks for posting it Muppet!

They totally weren't fooled by my smoke and mirrors of moving around the country all my life!  It was straight up "you are central Northern".  Nooooooooo, my South Dakota roots don't show that badly do they?  Say it isn't so!!!

On the Merry, Mary, Marry debate, I actually was upset with the answer options.  I think Marry and Mary sound the same, but Merry doesn't.  Why was that not an option in the answers?  Freakin different vowel, quiz-makers.  Ack!

  • 89% inland north... Makes sense for me. I'm from Ontario.. My "a" has a very rounded sound too it... Otherwise I'm ok . Do slip an eh in once and a while
  • I got 100% North Central. It makes sense that I would be mistaken for Canadian, since I am one. I didn't know how to answer the bag/vague question though. Every time I stop to think about it, I get overly self-conscious and can't think of how I normally say it!
  • Being born and raised in the SF bay area, I am not surprised that I have a Midland accent. Growing up, it always seemed like an accent-less place. Maybe that's why I was drawn to Boston, for their wicked awesome accent. Actually, my old roommate had a pretty thick one. It took awhile to really understand it. She put "r" on the end of words (and one bad incident with Salsa that I though she said Seltzer).

LOL!!! I know, right? I was pissed!!!   If you read up, PP Kinda Sparkly wrote about how Southern NH folks have less of an accent than other NH areas because they try to differentiate themselves from MA folks...and I whole heartedly agree with that.

Yes, I've actually seen Juston McKinney live at the Capitol Center -wicked awesome.
