Where to write "and guest"

For the people whom we're extending a "plus one" to, what is the best way to write "and guest" on the envelope? This is for the outer envelope, but I'm not doing inner, so it's really for THE envelopes. Also, same question for the name line on the RSVP card?

Mr. John Smith
And Guest
123 Main Street
Pleasantville, USA

OR

Mr. John Smith and Guest
123 Main Street
Pleasantville, USA

**obviously Mr. Smith and his guest aren't married. Thanks for the help!

Re: Where to write "and guest"

  • I'm not sure on the correct placement, but if you know the name of the guest (like if Mr. Smith has a SO) the SO should be mentioned on a separate line, as in example one.

My mother and brother have recieved invites with "and Guest" on the same line:

    Brother LN and Guest
    Address
    Town, MA Zip

     while I have recieved:

    Sydaries
    Sydaries BF
    My address
    My town, MA zip

[QUOTE]If these people are in relationships, you should find out the name of their SO and write that. If they are truly single, and guest is fine. For unmarried couples, names should be on separate lines, so the first way you have it in your post would be correct.

I'm sorry, I should have clarified. This is for single people (mainly who are traveling from far and don't know many others at the wedding) who are invited to bring a guest. I have included the names of all SOs where appropriate, but thank you for that reminder! In this case, I will stick with the first set-up. Thanks!

  • When we filled out the spreadsheet for our invitation vendor, they had us put "and Guest" on the same line. If you have the guest's name, it would go on the second line (assuming they are not married).
