Engagement Party Date

Hi, 

I am recently engaged, April 2, 2013 to be exact, and already going nuts with all the planning. First, my parents want to have an Engagement Party which I do not mind. The only problem is that after looking at venues the one's we liked do not have availability in June or July, so that would put us for either August 2nd or 3rd, engagement party. I know an engagement party should be 1-3 months after the engagement so would August 2 or 3  be out of the question, or would it still be okay.

Congratulations!!  This is such an exciting part!

If August is what works, then do it!  I try not to get so hung up on all the proper ettiquetee of wedding planning.  I am very traditional and having a very traditional wedding, but life gets in the way, so it's not always possible.   I was engaged last May and my engagement party was in September!  So yes, it's okay.  I highly doubt someone would say anything to you about the party date not being exactly 2-3 months after the proposal!

We got engaged in February and our engagement party was the following July.  Like PP said, sometimes it's just more practical.  I would say as long as you're not planning a super short engagement, and the engagement party will still be a while before the wedding, go for it.

My fiance and I got engaged in January and we are having our engagment party the end of April and we barely squeezed it in then. It was so hard with all the planning we were doing, his younger sister getting married this June and doing stuff for her and then just a bunch of other things. As long as it is not super close to the wedding time, bridal shower, etc I don't see the problem.

Thanks everyone, this makes me feel so much better. We don't have a date set up yet, but we have two months next year in mind April or September, so that is plenty of time between engagement party and wedding
