Venue help - Stratosphere?

Hi all

Heading to Vegas next year to get married.  I like the look of the Chapel in the Clouds (the Bella Luna) and the idea of getting married around tea time (ish) and then having dinner in the revolving restaurant at the Stratospher so my guests can see the strip both during the day and night.  I'm not keen on the Stratosphere as a hotel (or the location) but keen for views on whether the chapel is worth a visit?

Jill

Ps.  I'm a forum newbie and as a girl who didn't ever imagine herself getting married has on idea where to start.  Expect more ridiculous posts!

    Welcome to the forum!

I have very little information on the Stratosphere because we don't see people getting married there super frequently on here; not for any particular reason, just doesn't come up as much.  Here's the page with the one review and pics I have:

If you have costs, etc. I'd love to add them to my site.

  • I really like pictures of the view from the top of the world restaurant, but the bad reviews about the hotel (and most recently about beg bugs, YIKES!) has me completely staying away from there... so I feel you on the dilemma!

I am new to here as well, but I have the Chapel in the Clouds for my 3/1/14 wedding. I looked at SOOO many places before we decided on this. I wanted something outside, but it's still a little chilly in March, then I wanted something on the strip so it would be easy for my guests to get to. I really liked the Chapel, because it's "open" and the views are great. I have work with Amberly there, she is FANTASTIC! I am doing the reception there as well, just for the convenience and they are pretty reasonable on the price. However I am not sure if we will be staying there and I know most my guests will be staying at different places and there's a place there I can get ready at so I'm not worried about that part. I've stayed there a few years ago and it was "okay", but I've heard they have re-done the rooms and upgraded things, we'll figure that out when it gets closer.

The Stratosphere is about the last place you'd want to book from an 'easy to get to' standpoint for your guests; it's one of the most expensive cab rides in Vegas from the airport since it's nearly at downtown, but not.  The hotel is definitely 'weathered' so I wouldn't stay there.  It's basically a bad hotel in a bad location which happens to have a 100 story tall tower that brings people in, so the tower is good for what the recent reviews call a great, but overpriced, restaurant, but the rest of the property is not so great.

  • Most of my guests are staying on freemont street & at the end of the strip... And it's to late to change it, I've already booked the Chapel and everything will be great. :)

Vegasgroom, we have a meeting with a coordinator at the Strat on Monday, I'm happy to share all the info I get when we get back from our trip if you would like.
  • That would be great; I'd be happy to post it up on my site.

  • Vegasgroom it looks like some of the links on your site to review posts aren't working, probably a result of the 'upgrade', the ones above just go straight to the forum homepage :-(

Very weird, yes it looks like something has made that thread no longer accessible.  Even Google still shows it exists, the subject was "10/11/12 Reviews Part 1 - Nevada-Las Vegas - Community Forums" and the link still shows in Google as http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/local-wedding-boards_nevada-las-vegas_101112-reviews-part-1

Of course now that they've removed all the moderators they probably won't give a * about fixing it but I'll post to their help forum and ask them to.

Did you find any other links on my site that were broken or just the Stratosphere?  I spot checked a few and the others were still working.

Top of the World @ Stratosphere (reception dinner) – B+

The only reason I didn't give a higher grade is due to the lack of communication at times. When I first started looking at venues, TOTW was our 1st choice but it was pricey. Our original contact ended up departing due to medical issues. Then we dealt with John DeLeon through the rest of the process. The TOTW defintiely has high standards and they won't let it be anything less than the best. We dropped off our favors the day before and John gave me a tour of the room (had only seen a picture prior) and they offered to set out the favors for us. Our night started off with a 30 minute cocktail hour. When we arrived, all of our guests were there and I was blown away when we walked in. The room was gorgeous and the view of the strip was amazing. If anyone did the skyjump, we would've seen them but unfortunately due to the nasty rain, we didn't see any jumpers :( We did a consumption bar constisting of beer/wine/soda. We wanted to offer the first 2 drinks on us then cash bar but they wouldn't do that. , so consumption ended up working out. We also did Menu 2 which is 4 courses. We were in the Twilight Room on the 104th floor. We had 4 waiters (who also served as bartendars at times) taking care of us all night. We had to pay for the food 72 hours prior to the event and paid for the drinks at the end of the night. The best part was dinner – honestly it was amazing. 1st course was either Lobster Bisque or the soup of the day. 2nd course was either caesar salad or muscelin salad. Well they brought out the biggest bowls of salad that I've ever seen and hand scoped everyones plate. 3rd course was either Salmon, Chicken or Petite Filet (there was NOTHING petite about it). 4th course was dessert – an oreo cheesecake cakepop/chocolate mousse with white chocolate straw/white chocolate bowl with mixed berries. There was sooo much food. We didn't have a dj but they hooked up our iphone for us which was nice. We did have a first dance but that was it.

Cake – Top of the World – A++++

OMG I LOVED OUR CAKE. The cake is the only thing that you can bring in but by the time you pay the cake cutting fee, it's not worth it so we used the bakery at the Top of The World. I feel bad as I took a picture of a cake that I saw on the Retro Bakery site and asked them to duplicate it...they did and it was PERFECT. I just wish I had asked them to make a smaller cake, it was pretty big (now I know why I paid what I paid). We had red velvet with cream cheese filling. I can't even tell you how much I loved the cake, the flavor was amazing. The detail was amazing. I just am speechless. The only bad part was that due to all the food prior, no one really ate a lot of cake. We took the whole bottom layer and half of the top layer back with us but the frig at TI wasn't big enough to keep it cold. Well we were so “whatever” with it and it ended up going bad but oh well – it was beautiful and yummy when we shared our 1st piece.
