Morning/Wedding Update Wednesday

GM everyone!  How's it going?

Work and such is slow - which is fine by me!  In terms of wedding stuff, The shoes I bought had to be returned :(  They made me taller than FI!  I have a replacement on it's way though, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm starting to look at where to register... i am NOT excited about that at all.

How was your day yesterday? And what's new in wedding-planning?

Good morning!  Hope everyone is doing well.  Hmmm...wedding planning updates...well, I went to Michael's yesterday.  Picked up some more mirrors to go under our centerpieces, a jewelry needlenose pliers to help make my wine charms, and Thank-You cards for our couples shower.  I got ones that match the invites that were sent.
We have started getting gifts in the mail.  It was surprising to see a box on the doorstep without having gone shopping.  lol
We are going to **hopefully** order our wedding bands this weekend.

Tonight FI has a hockey game, so I am going to try and go for a run once the sun starts to set a bit...maybe around 7:30.  Nothing to long or fast...about 3 miles.  Wish me luck!!

MD- Do you have a pic of the shoes your ordered?

Pittsburgh September Siggy - Our honeymoon will be at the Royal Suites Turquesas in P*nta Cana. Super excited!

GL with the running janice! It's soo hot that I think I could barely do 1 mile.  And that's exciting about the gifts!

the new shoes I'm looking at are below!  Same brand and still gold satin, but a different style that has a lower heel.  They are a little simpler, but I like them - we'll see how they look in person!

Good morning ladies. I finally decided to get back on the wedding bandwagon. I have a cake consult scheduled in August as well as an initial walk through of our venue with the event manager. Hoping to schedule our catering tasting soon as well.

Has anyone with a wedding next spring/early summer started to work on flowers? I'm having a hard time getting excited about them for some reason but it's on the "checklist."

flower - I've taken care of my flowers for next April, and I think pantherRN has for her May wedding.  We both were pretty un-excited about flowers too.

I basically only bothered with florists who responded to email within 3 days, as I live out of town and can't deal with someone who isn't responsive.  After shooting emails to 10 florists or so, that left me with 3 choices: My Bridal Blooms, Carrie Ann Powell, and Val Brooks.  All of them were wonderful during consults, so it came down to budget.

    GL!

Gooood morning!  I need to be farther along in my wedding planning, but sometimes that is life.  I got all of the fabric to make the guys' pocket squares, the table runners and the wraps for the bouquets.

My Mom is making my invites, and she got all of the paper cut, now they just need to be assembled.  They are pocket invites, so it will be a bit of work.  I gave the guest list to FMIL and she is addressing all the envelopes.  I wish invites were done, but I keep telling myself that its not eight weeks out for another week and a half, so I still have time to get the invites out.

My sister had a baby last Thursday.  She lives in Syracuse, so my parents went up last weekend, and I will be going up with my Mom and other sister this weekend.  We're taking all of the invite pieces so that we can assemble while up there and see the new baby girl.

Most exciting update?  We're going to the Pirates game September 25, the day after our wedding and the final Pirates home game.  FI bought Pirates jerseys with his last name for the two of us.  His has the number 9 and mine has the number 24.  I'm excited to get pics of us in them!  Oh, and FI picked up his wedding ring.  Its his grandfathers (my rings are his grandmothers).  We had his ring cleaned and engraved with our wedding date and initials.  The inside already has his grandparents wedding date and initials engraved on it.

MD - I LOVE Nina shoes and those shoes look very classy.
Janice - Yay for getting presents in the mail!  I hope you get to go for your wedding bands!  I put mine on ALL the time for fun!

Flower - I wasn't excited about flowers, but I was after meeting with my consultant.  She just made everything so easy.  I went with Carrie Anne Powell.

MD - who did you choose as your florist?

MD- Love the shoes.  I hope they work for you...very classy looking as Mrads said.
MRADS- assembling invites is fast approaching on our list.  Good luck!!  The pirates jerseys sound awesome!!!

Funny that florists came up today.  We too are using Carie Anne Powell...love her. I just emailed her an idea.  I am thinking about changing what our Jr. BMs (more like FGs...they are 8 & 10) will carry.  I am thinking about sunflower pomanders instead of bouqets.  Here is the inspiration for it....can't wait to see what she says.

Mandie - I think the engraving of the wedding band is so sweet.  Congrats to your sister, and that's awesome about the pirates game!

I chose Val Brooks for the florist - her prices were just SO much better, and flowers weren't my priority.  But I had a great experience with Carrie and with Susan of MyBridalBlooms - cant help recommending them all to consult with.

MD - that's awesome that you would recommend all three.  I feel like every time I haven't gone with a vendor there was a reason behind it, and I wouldn't consider recommending the vendors.  FI has a few friends getting married this upcoming year worrying about florist.  I will pass all of those names along to them.

I haven't met with any florists yet since we're getting married out of town...I've looked up a few that I think I want to meet with, but haven't sent any emails since we probably won't be able to meet until Sept/Oct.

We're headed back to Dayton this weekend, and one of my BM's is throwing a party for our bridal party so everyone can meet each other. Should be fun!

We're also meeting with several DJs this weekend, and hopefully settling on our cake flavors with our bakery.

Glad to see I'm not the only one knee deep with wedding stuff! I finally got our E Session Scheduled.. very excited about that! I've been calling on hair/make up appts. Hopefully I can get the scheduled soon! Got our "cake" consult scheduled for Next Thursday.

For our flowers iIve been very excited about them..  I at first wanted Spider mums(which I LOVE). However, I saw a vendor on Etsy who makes Wooden flowers and thats the route we are going now. (If all goes as planned) I'm extremely excited about this because they are absolutely amazing! If the wooden flowers don't work out.. back to the Spider Mums! :)

Right now we are trying to nail down our centerpiece set up! (Nervous about this)

MD-Love the shoes. I love Nina!
MRads- Love the Pirates jersey idea! So cute!Go Buccos!
Janice-I think the Sunflower Pomanders are a great idea! Great for a fall wedding!

    Gotta love update Wednesday.

Ok, so I really really need to order save the dates. Also trying to get all my girls to order their dresses this week as July 27th is the drop dead date (my dresses are being discontinued). Nothing new has really been accomplished yet. I just don't feel the need to do some things so early in the game. When should we start our registry? I know where we are going for it, but I heard to wait until the 6 month mark.

Md- You aren't excited about the registry? Where do you think you'll end up registering? And I have those shoes in the pic! I wore them with a BM dress last March. Beware, they ran really big on me. Nice shoes though.

Janice- Drink lots of water and be careful in this heat! And I love the sunflower pomander idea. I think it would look nice if she can do it.

Flowerstar- yeah flowers are not the most exciting thing to find. I went with Carrie Ann Powell for my March wedding. She was ressonably priced and awesome to work with.

Mrads- Congrats on the new niece! And be sure to post pics up of the jerseys.

Mook- Have fun in Dayton! That's really nice they are throwing a shower for you :-)

Our wedding invites are going out today!!! They were definitely a labor of love - so excited to have them done and sent out :)

Things are defnitely coming together - this weekend we will hit the 2 month mark.  I can't believe how fast time is going!  Tomorrow we meet with our venue for our detail appointment and tomorrow night, we are finally going to pick out FI's wedding band.

My first fitting is also scheduled for Monday - can't wait to see my dress!

Hope all is well with everyone's planning!

sarilynn- I think the only reason people say to wait until the 6 month mark is so that things on your list don't get discontinued. But if you check the registry every so often to check for and replace discontinued items, then I don't think there's any harm in registering early. Plus I've heard that the only things that tend to get discontinued (especially at places like BBB) are seasonal items and matching bathroom sets for soap dispensers, tissue holders, etc.

sari- I've heard 6 months for registry too, b/c of the reasons mookow said.  Our thing is that the website is live now, and our STDs went out, so we figure we should get registry info there in the next month or so in case people are wondering.

Dunno where to register, maybe Amazon and one physical store? BBB or Macy's or Crate&Barrel?  Don't really know how to choose...which is maybe why I'm not so excited for it.

  • edited December 2011
MD- I think your idea of Amazon + one store is good. Registering with Amazon is cool because you can put anything that's sold online (anywhere, not just at Amazon) on your registry. If you're inviting a lot of computer savvy people I'm sure they'll like browsing and using an Amazon registry.

As far as picking the actual store, I'd probably go with either BBB or Macy's since they are more widespread and have more locations, but I guess that depends where your guests are located. I think we're going to do both BBB and Macy's but if I had to pick one I'd probably go with BBB. I've heard a lot of good things about their registry program and I think they generally have better deals. Plus they give out those 25% off coupons like nobody's business.

Yeah I didn't want stuff to be discontinued either. I also wanted to wait since some people I know register only a month or two before (which is ridiculous in my opinion, and hard on guests) and will wonder why we registered so early. I'm registering right after I send Save the Dates. Am I sending Save the Dates late if I don't send until early August?

I think you're fine - STDs go out 6-9 months before the wedding I believe.  All but one guest is OOT for me (woo destination wedding in the burgh!), so I did right at 9 months, but who knows? That might be so early some people completely forget about it =P

Sounds like everyone is really doing well in planning! My only update from last time is we met with an uplighting vendor who I think we will be going with.

We are just trying to decide if we are going to go with static or dynamic lighting. Anyone  here  done/doing uplighting?

    So let's see...

I solved my make-up crisis! And I'm working on hair. We were going to go to a salon, but I think it'll be easier to have someone come to us. Also, we started one of our registries this past weekend at Williams Sonoma. FI had a lot of fun with the scanner :P

flower: I booked our florist a little more than a month ago. I was quite unexcited about flowers as well.

Nothing really new on the wedding planning. My little is working on my STDs after she comes back from Spain, so hopefully, I'll get to see them soon.  My mom and I are trying to decide on when to meet up with FI's parents and hash out budget details.  I'd like to do it around Christmas time this year (18 months out) so I can do most of the planning next summer when I'm home.  Mom wants to wait until next summer, but that will limit my planning time while I'm home.  Oh, and my grandma found us an officiant! She's actually a cousin of mine, and is willing to marry us :)
Otherwise, it's just been planning and packing for the move. Two weeks! AAAHHH!
