Wedding Invitations & Paper

Is a program necessary?

I keep seeing all this info about ideas for the wedding program. I can't for the life of me figure out what the purpose of one is in a standard wedding. Am I missing something? Can someone point me to some info about what they really are and if I really need one? Thanks!,!

  • No you aren't required to have one. Same goes for wedding favors.
  • Unless your ceremony is somehow complicated or you feel you need to publish the names of the people involved, there is really no need for them.

  • Absolutely not necessary. We had them because our cerremony was unusual. And I've read that some Catholic Churches require them so that the sung responses are available to the guests. But otherwise it's completely fine to skip them.

  • Definitely not necessary. We didn't have programs and if we had, I'm not sure what we would even have put in them since our ceremony was pretty simple. As a guest I've also never felt I needed something to help me "follow along" with the ceremony.
  • I just bought wedding program cardstock by Martha Stewart and Staples and plan on printing my own.  I only bought 1 pack of 50, and I don't plan on making any more than that.  I figured one per family would be enough. The paper cost me $12, and a new black ink cartridge was $30.

  • They are not necessary at all.  However, if you do choose to have one, they typically list parents, bridal party members, and the order of events.  I designed ours from a template (www.greatpapers.com), purchased paper from Staples, and printed them at home.  They were very easy and low cost.

<div>Not required.  Our ceremony was 20 minutes.  If you couldn't follow along or got lost during those 20 minutes, I doubt a program would've helped anyway.  :P</div>
  • The only reason we're doing them is because it's an outdoor wedding, and I'm a little concerned about guests getting warm during the ceremony. I found some programs that double as fans, and I like that idea =)
  • no they are not most of them get tossed out anyways
