Invitation Wording

I'm wondering how to incorporate my parents and my fiance's parents onto the invitation with out it seeming drawn out? My parents are divorced, and my fiance was adopted and only grew up with a mom. He is now close to his biological dad, who will be at the wedding. Should I include his dad or just his adoptive mom? Or both? Please help!! Thank you!

Who is hosting? Are any of your parents remarried?

Listing your parents by name on the invitation isn't an "honor". But they can be listed in your programs (with their respective new spouses as applicable).
  • My dad has been remarried twice since my mom. I grew up with my step-mom, my mom, and my dad. His recent wife I don't know very well at all. And he is paying for a lot of the wedding.

Even if you do not know a spouse ("step parent") very well, you must list him or her as a host. It's "their" money as a couple, not just your dad's. It appears in this case, your dad and his wife are hosting.

I think you just need to use:

Mr and Mrs John Steven Smith
Request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage of his daughter
    Sarah Ann
    to
    Mark Thomas Johnson

    Saturday, the twentieth of July
    Two thousand thirteen
    Four o'clock

    XYZ Venue
    City, State

If your dad doesn't care if he is named as host (please, please ask him!). You can use:

    Together with their parents
    Sarah Ann Smith
    and
    Mark Thomas Johnson
Request the pleasure of your company
as they are united in marriage

    Saturday, the twentieth of July
