Wedding Invitations & Paper

Save the Dates

Quick question when sending out save the dates do you have to write "and guest" on the outside of the envelope if your going to allow them to bring a guest? Of course I know this is necessary for the formal invitations but for save the dates as well? Thanks!

Not required, but if you think a single out-of-town family member or friend might start making travel arrangements based off of the STD, you might want to give them a heads up that they may bring a guest.
  • Great- thanks so much for the help! Another question- when sending out the save the dates, could I just address the envelope to (example) "John Smith" or should it be as fomal as the invitations will be and say (Mr. John Smith)? The last question I have is if I'm sending a save the date to a family (husband, wife and kid(s)), could I just address it to (example) "The Smith Family" or should that too be more formal? I am totally lost here.

    Single:
    John Smith

    Couple:
    Mary and John Smith

    Couple with Kids:
    Mary and John Smith
    Timmy, Sally, Jane

Mr and Mrs really isn't necessary. But please list out children by name. "Family" can cause people to assume that they have more flexibility in inviting along extra people when that isn't your intention.
  • Thank you!! I came along another question! My fiance and I have our own place and have been living together for a few years. Should both of our names be listed in the top left corner of the envelope with our return address?

I just looked at your profile. If your wedding is truly in October of this year...it might be a little late to send out STDs. Unless you do it like...yesterday.

    You could write:

    Smith-Jones Wedding
    123 Main Street
    Anytown, USA

We used a stamp like this, with only our first names. We still use it today. (though you really don't have the time to order one)

  • Yes, my wedding is truly October 26, 2013. I am aware that I'm a little late with sending out my save the dates. At this point, they are ready to be mailed out tomorrow- it was just a last minute question. Thanks for the help.
