Invite wording for father and son

Quick wording question...I'm inviting a father and son who live together. I know the outer envelope should be...

Mr. John Smith
Mr. Bob Smith

So what should I put on the inner envelope?

Mr. Smith
Mr. Smith

...seems weird. Is that it though?

Re: Invite wording for father and son

  • Is the son an adult?  If so, send him his own invitation.

Otherwise, on the inner envelope, I'd put

    Mr. John Smith
    Mr. Bob Smith

to clarify that they're both invited.

I don't think I'd use the "Mr" title for  a child. Are you inviting the dad with a guest?

Since you have inner envelopes, you needn't put the child's name on the outer envelope.

    Outer:

    Mr John Smith
    123 Main Street
    Anytown USA

    Inner:

    Mr John Smith
    Bobby Smith
