Reception Locations with Space for Yard Games

Okay, Ladies. I would love some help.

I've been searching for months trying to find a reception location. My fiancee and I aren't really interested in the traditional evening reception with dinner and dancing. We want something a little less formal with a lot less dancing. In other words, we aren't planning on having dancing at all. Instead, we were hoping to find a place for our reception that had access to the outdoors to set up yard games, bubbles, etc.

Originally, I was looking at the mansion at Robin Hill Park. In every way, shape, and form it's perfect. Well, almost. While we are planning a small wedding, Robin Hill is just barely too small. However, we liked that it had both an inside and outside space. We've inquired about Shady Elms Farm (too expensive), Destiny Hill Farm (haven't heard back yet), and even Stonebridge Farm Nursery in Ambridge (farther than we wanted to go).

If anyone has any suggestions for me, it would be grealy appreciated! We're looking for someplace in the Moon Township/Robinson/Bridgeville/Washington areas. (We would like to get married in McDonald or Imperial.) However, after all of my fruitless seaching, I'm open to anything. We can't afford much more than $2000 for a venue rental fee, and our guest list will be anywhere from 100 to 125 people max.

If all goes as planned we'd like to get married in June of 2013. If we can't find anything soon, I'll probably start looking for places to have a coctail reception with access to a porch. We like being outside, what can I say?

  • Check out the lodge in North Park. The rental fee this year is $350 (includes alcohol permit). The inside of the lodge itself is two floors. The main level is a rustic barn-like interior with three rooms. The lower level is a large dining area with a big kitchen (they also let you eat upstairs). There's a baseball field across the parking lot that you get use of, plus a very large lawn area off the lower level. This includes a patio area, a sort-of stage, and a lot of grass. It's off the main part of the park, so I believe it should be pretty private.

We're getting married there in December. You would need to bring in chairs and tables if you wanted to set up in the upstairs area of the lodge (the lower floor has tables and chairs, but they can't go upstairs). They give you usage of the lodge from 8am until midnight on the day of the event.

The ladies in the park office are really nice. You can go up to look at it when they're open, which is 8a-4p M-F (if I recall correctly). I think the park starts taking reservations a year from the date you're looking for.

None of these are mine, but I found them online in my search for pictures of the lodge.

Hope that helps. Best of luck on your search!
  • Mayernik Center would also work, and is affordable.
  • Not sure how affordable it is, and you have to be put by 6/7 but hartwood acres does weddings. Just a thought
  • Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I've looked into some of those places. Maybe it's time to reconsider my ceremony location so I can be closer to one of those reception sites!
  • Try the Doubletree Hotel in Moon Township. Dawn is amazing to work with and they have a beautiful gazebo with lots of room for games and such. They don't require a rental fee at all for the venue. I am doing my ceremony and reception there. The whole place is truly beautiful plus they provide all the rentals in the packages.
  • We are looking for pretty much the same thing and not really coming up with anything.  We are doing a destination wedding but want to have a big party/reception back here afterwards to  celebrate with friends and family.  I also wanted something outdoors and more of a relaxed picnic atmosophere.

Did Destiny Hill ever get back to you?  I sent them an inquiry today.  I am guessing that it is very expensive too.

If I find anything i will let you know.
  • a354663 - I haven't heard anything back from Destiny Hill, which has been a huge bummer so far.

ohiougirl - Thanks for the Doubletree suggestion. I'm definitely checking it out!
  • Depending on where your ceremony is, Lingrow Farms looks lovely! And i second the double tree in Moon. My friend got married there in September 11, and it was very nice. Awesome outdoor space.

  • Sweetie388 I sent you a Private Message to your inbox with the Destiny Hill info.
