Winfrey Point Questions

So we haven't settled on a venue yet, I wanted to find a few and then decide.  I have heard about Winfrey from here, but I'm still a little at loss at the cost.  I see on the website is about 160 an hour with a 4 hour minimum.  I also noticed there are several different types of security deposit, and possible rentals I would need to get.  So I was wondering if there is by chance anyone who has had a wedding there give maybe a break down of what it really ended up costing to rent there? (facility rental, any extra rentals, security deposits, hidden fees you may not think about)   It almost doesn't seem as cheap as it's lead on to believe when you really think about it?  I am also wondering how many hours one should reserve it for and if that time slot includes getting the place ready and tear down?  Thanks.

Re: Winfrey Point Questions

  • I didn't have my wedding there, but almost guaranteed the time slot includes the time the doors are unlocked to the time they are locked back up.
We were married across the lake at a different venue with a 7:00 start time, 12:00 exit, and 1am lock up. We had the building rented total from 4pm to 1am, 9 hours, and that was barely enough time to set up beforehand (for my mom and my planner). So that was 3 hours of setup, 5 total hours of wedding fun, and 1 hour for breakdown.
    Just something to think about.

I'm sure someone else can comment on the extra table and chair rentals and everything else.

If you want Winfrey Point to look like a lavish event space, it will cost you to do so.  We had a Knottie totally transform it and said the cost to do so was on par with having her wedding at the Arboretum.

On the other hand, you can DIY the space yourself, do the tear down and set up yourself, and save a considerable amount doing so.  It just depends on if it's worth it to you to do that, or if you'd rather pay more for a more all-inclusive venue.

The facility comes with metal folding chairs so you might want to at least consider renting better ones and I would also recommend a day-of coordinator if you decide to go with the space so you don't have to worry about coordinating every detail yourself on the wedding day.
  • Thanks guys that's exactly what I needed... So basically if we did 9 hours (which I was thinking 10 or so) so that makes sense it makes the venue alone 1600 that doesn't even include deposits and any rentals.  That is helpful.  I wasn't sure if they allowed the rental time to start at say 7 but you could still decorate before hand off clock.  If that was the case then yeah it's a deal, but if not then for a place you have to do a lot to it's not the best deal I have seen.

Now I will say most of the places we have found that are cheaper are still kind of DYI type thing but that's not a big deal for me because I don't plan to do a lot of decorating.  Our main focus is that people have seats, food, booze and great music :)
  • I'm thinking about having our wedding there. I understand that they book up fast, and, say you want to have your wedding June 15, 2014. The earliest you can book is June 1, 2013. It is a beautiful space. I think where you have the oppurtunity to save money is 1) You choose the caterer, so the food is as expensive as you want. 2) The alcohol deposit is refundable, so you are paying for whatever alcohol you want. Most places will make you pay for the off duty police officer, so that is an expense you will have regardless.

If you hire a day-of-planner, maybe they can handle the clean-up. The main concern I have is, will midnight be enough time to get everyone out and the place cleaned up. It has been done before, so I guess we can give it a shot.

I've also had the idea of renting the space for 4 hours the night before, to set up. Then having the space for as long as I need for the day of. We are planning a Friday night wedding, and Thursdays are cheaper per hour.

Hope this helps. We are on a budget, so if the place is booked for the day we want- we may end up in Vegas :)

  • Let me know what you find. I didn't even know about Times Ten Cellars. The website looks beautiful. I will set up a meeting, and see if I can tour Winfrey Point. I will ask a few more questions than I did over the phone. I just really loved the location.
