Running a website

I've got a new job. Yea for me! There is just one issue. I don't know how to run a website. And I can't afford to take a class on it. I haven't told my boss although I know he'll be very understanding about it and help me figure it out. Does anyone know of somewhere that I can find out how to do it? It's not all of my job but it's a big part of it. My other duties are making advertisements and taking phone calls. So easy except for the website.

Re: Running a website

  • what kind of website? like social media, or like customer inquiries from the website? what specifically is it?

  • Sorry I should have been specific. I'll be working for a photography company. I know loads about photography but nothing about running a website.

Most companies use third party software to update their site before changes go "live"do you know what you'll have to use? Usually there are tutorials on YouTube, or the software company will have free tutorials.

  • He uses yola.com
  • He'll probably be willing to pay for a class. As far as he told me it'll be just putting up photos and things like that.
  • It sounds like they have something established so it's not like you'll start from scratch. Someone will probably show you when and how to make the updates and it will be fine.

Did you tell them you knew how to manage websites when you interviewed? If not, they probably know they are using a website builder that is manageable to learn.
  • I didn't tell him that I knew how to run a website. So you're probably right. It'll probably be pretty easy and straight forward. Thanks for the reassurance.
