Re: Derby hats

  • Thanks for posting those crazy hats--I'd have a very sore neck at the end of the day!
  • I'm not sure how crazy I'm going to do my hat this year, but it certainly won't be that bad!

  • Mine's not crazy at all, it's a legitimately pretty hat, and it kind of makes me sad now that I see all these awesomely kitschy monstrosities. The flamingos hat is probably my favorite.

  • I'm going to make mine slightly kitchy, but I'm going to stick with a black hat/ribbon and pops of color. Maybe peacock-y. ;) I'm making it this afternoon, so we'll see!!

  • I'm having a fascinator made for my bridal shower (I won it at a derby party last year). I can't wait to see it in a month or so!

And those hats are so funny. I like the cheesehead. I think it's totally legitimate.
  • We have derby day at the office. Everyone in my group thought those pictures were hilarious. Here's mine. I feel like it matches the hats my mom had her BP wear in 1987.

My FMIL wore a while version of that hat at her wedding in the 70s. Did wedding hats use to be a thing?
  • Love all the hats, hate the thoroughbred racing industry.

Zoberg, my Mom also wore a white hat in her wedding in the '80s.

    I think so.

My mom wanted a "Victorian" theme. She had a white hat with a tuft and a veil down the back, a high-neck with an illusion sweetheart neckline and mutton-chop sleeve ball gown. Her BMs wore teal hats with tufts and mini-veils with teal sweeheart neckline muttonchop sleeve taffeta gowns and they carried hurricane lanterns with pink flowers around the bottom.

What's even better is that she was engaged to be married the first time in like 85? 86? Then they broke it off and she met my dad. She only switched out the Groom, groomsmen and one BM, but kept the same dresses for everyone, the same church and the same reception hall.

My mom got married in the early 70's and had a hat instead of a veil.
Those hats are awesome!  That "size really does matter" one was HUGE!!

  • I demand pictures of KM and Bunni's hats!

Some of those hats were pretty awesome.  I was lol pretty hard at the first and second one.
