Preserving the dress.

Hey ladies!
Did any of you preserve your dress after the wedding? Mine is just hanging in my closet right now and I'm not sure if I should just get it dry cleaned or preserved. I have heard preserving can cause wedding dresses to turn yellow but I don't know if that is true.

Thanks! Jen

Re: Preserving the dress.

  • It took me about a year to get my dress cleaned and preserved.  Prices vary but it ran me about $200.

The point of preserving a gown is to prevent it from yellowing, not the opposite.

  • I originally planned on selling my dress, but after the wedding I was unexpectedly sentimental about it.

The Knot will send you occassional deals via e-mail if you sign it up to let them spam you.  One of these deals, after you are married, is dress preservation for 99 dollars.  It's a steal.

And ditto to what Maggie said: The entire point of preserving your dress is to prevent yellowing.  If you let it just hang around unprotected, over the years it will degrade.
