Shoe help!!!

So i purchased my dress:

I am having an issue with figuring out what shoes to wear! I will be wearing heels (he is 6'4 I am 5'4) but is it really necessary to get crazy beautiful shoes if nobody will see them?
I am torn between buying manolo blahniks "the swan" and a really basic pump from dsw or something....What are you guys doing?

Two factors that only you can consider: Budget and comfort.

Personally, I went with a designer shoe. I'm normally not a label snob, but I knew my photographer would be taking pictures of my shoes and accessories during the "getting ready" photos and I wanted that label. Vanity? Maybe.

  • I went through about 5 pairs of shoes before deciding on a pair of 3 inch ivory satin heels.  After the ceremony and a few pics (maybe an hour on my feet) I took those suckers off and put on my comfy platform wedges from Victorias Secret.  Looking back I really should have just worn the wedges the entire day because no one saw my feet.  I have one picture of my shoes and if it weren't for that then no one would have known what my shoes looked like.

When it comes to your wedding day you need comfort over glamour for your feet.  Pick a pair of shoes that you will be fine walking, standing and dancing in for up to 8 hours.  Because the last thing you want is to get a blister or have your feet killing you an hour or two into your wedding day.

And remember if you do decide to switch your pretty shoes out for something a bit more comfortable at the reception, try and fine a shoe that is about the same height so that way you aren't tripping over your dress because you have 4 extra inches of fabric now dragging on the floor.

Oh, and if you do go the expensive route, make sure that you can wear them again in the future.  It would suck to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of shoes you will only wear once.  And yeah, I know the same could be said for the dress but the dress gets to be seen the entire day and is photographed to the high heavens, shoes, not so much.

  • I can relate!  I was eyeing a pair of expensive Badgley Mischka pumps for the past few weeks even though I knew wedges were a smarter choice.  My decision?

I have 3 pairs of shoes for the day.  I know, it sounds crazy but hear me out:

Pair #1 - Sexy Nina Chablis in Ivory $50
To wear with my short white dress at the rehearsal, during the wedding for any photo where my feet will show, first dance, and for when FI removes my garter

Pair #2 - Sensible Calvin Klein Rosaria Wedges in Antique White $50
These are my main shoes for the day. Comfortable and rubber soled for walking down my (slippery marble) aisle.

Pair #3 - Kohl's Leather Wedge Flip Flops in White $9
In case of emergency (i.e. blisters)

Excessive? Absolutely.  But I won't be miserable the entire night and I still came in less than half of the cost of the designer pumps.

I got 50 shoes from Zappos with a 1 1/2" heel. My fiance isn't very tall but they have rhinestones and pearls. When I look at those shoe pics, I don't look at the label. I look to see if the shoes are cute. And even if they aren't, I really don't care. I've yet to see one person have that darn some picture framed in their home...
  • Jilly, have you tried on the Blahniks? I cant imagine they are that comfortable because they are quite a high heel.  If you have tried them on and youre someone who can tolerate heels that high for many hours AND its in your budget, go for it.

Otherwise, go cheaper but still pretty.  Use that leftover money for some awesome accessories or for other parts of your budget.

  • I'm getting sensible heels with a wide base so I can walk on uneven garden pavers, grass, and wooden dance floors with equal ease.  They're by a company called Peter Fox, who specializes in custom shoes for Broadway, TV, movies, etc.  The shoes have a 3 inch 'louis' heel, which is not a stiletto but a wider style heel.  They're going to be about $375.00, which includes shipping and custom-dying.  I am dying them to match my dress, which is going to be a periwinkle/wisteria grey-blue.  The shoes are handmade in Italy, with leather soles, and silk/leather uppers.   This company offers many styles, and all are very comfortable.
  • I vote
    1. Go for comfort because you will be on your feet a lot
    2. Go for somthing you like that is cute but that you will likely to be able to wear again

I spent almost $80 on a pair of shoes that I will never wear again because they are a bridal show. Huge regret. I wish I would have just gone for a fun pair of shoes. Now my reception shoes ($20.00 ballerina flats w/rhinestones all over them from Target) I love & still wear because they look really cute w/jeans.

If you opt for a basic heel, check on etsy or other online stores, you can find some really cute shoe clips to totally change the look of a plain pair of shoes to a fun funky or blinged out pair of shoes.
  • By the way, your dress is beautiful
