Veil Input

I'd like some input on a veil - simple, blinged out, 20 ft long, or super short. This is the only wedding related thing that has stumped me so far. I have short hair if that helps. Here is a link to my dress:

It may be hard to tell, but the dress is very sparkly, as in every time I move it glitters.

I was thinking about DIYing one myself but it may be cheaper to go to a salon - Like I said, clueless!

Re: Veil Input

  • I'm not seeing a 20ft veil when your dress has no train.

Check ebay for veils.  When one of my DD's got married 8 years ago we found the exact one she wanted for 35.00.  David's bridal wanted 135.00.

I'm sorry I should have been clearer I am looking for input on length/style.
  • Personally I think with that dress and short hair, a fingertip length veil or a fascinator with a bit of a floral embellishment would be cute and stylish.
  • Thanks for the input everyone! Going to try out the fingertip veil.
  • Try a fingertip veil--always sophisticated, always classy. You could get one with a little bit of sparkle or just keep it simple. It is up to you based on the jewelry you're wearing etc.

  • I really have no opinion as I don't know anything about veils and didn't wear one.  I just wanted to say your dress is gorgeous and I got my dress from Simply Bridal too!

Thank you! Glad to see another SB bride here!
  • Fingertip.

I DIY'd my fingertip veil and it cost me about $8.  I just went with a raw edge one tier veil and attached it to a metal comb.  It took me about 30-45 minutes to make.

Yeah, I'm probably just going to go to Joann's and DIY it since I want a raw edged one and I like DIYing!

I think I found a pattern online, but in the end I just folded the tulle in half and then rounded off the corners so the veil wasn't so square.  It was pretty easy.  I also used clear thread instead of white or off-white so you really couldn't see where I did the running stich or where I attached it to the comb.  I also think I used 2 yards of tulle but I am not quiet sure.  I guess it depends on how thick/fluffy of a veil you want.

Here is a pic or two of me in my DIY veil.  After the ceremony and a few pictures it came off so I was so happy I didn't spend an arm and a leg on it.

Where did you do the running stitch? To gather the tulle at the top where it is attached?
Thanks for the info! Heading to Joann's for some fabric then to Claire's for a tiara/hair jewelry.

Yup.  I did a long running stich at the top of the "veil" and then pulled the tulle tight (about the length of the metal comb) and then knotted the end to keep everything in place while I attached the fabric to the comb.
