Flapper dresses

I want to have a Harlem Renaissance wedding. it is so hard to find a flapper dress for my bridemaids. Any suggestions? I want the long gloves, beads and headbands.

Sigh. I'm warning you about the onslaught of negativity that is about to come your way. This board is very unfriendly to "costume" type get-ups of all kinds for weddings. 

I also think you might want to consider your bridesmaids' feelings---do they WANT to wear (not to mention buy) flapper style dresses? 

Maybe consider 20s-esque styles like these from ModCloth instead of the actual flapper style?

Ditto what PP said, plus consider the original meaning behind the flappers... that they were easy, slutty smokers/drinkers. Are you going to ask your bridesmaids to rouge their knees? Flappers did that, you know, to make it look like they had been kneeling on them. As in, giving blowjobs.

Yeah...gotta agree with the others.  Flappers were slutty drinkers/smokers.   There isn't much in this world I wouldn't do for my BFF but flapper dresses, gloves, and headbands wouldn't happen.

Please rethink this.  If you like the 20's era, just use some touches of it as elements of your reception.  If you go through with this, please don't make those girls pay for those costumes.

Rue La La  (an online sample sale website)  had " Great Gatsby Style"   Which had a bunch of cute 20's style dresses.   You can definitely find this era of style dresses thanks to the inspiration of Boardwalk Empire and such

Beading and fringe cost a little bit extra: but they are beautifully made dresses.  I'd love to wear one!     

My Fair wedding did a wedding based off this era: it was really beautiful with candelabra's and pearls.... see if you can find it online for a little inspiration!!!

For the record, if I were your BM and you picked this dress, I would be SO grumbly. I look pretty horrible in flapper styles anyway (since they're really meant for a boyish figure, not pear/hourglass) and then spending almost $300 on a dress I'd NEVER wear again? Yeah, would be an issue (just my two cents)

I love flapper style dresses. Do your BMs? Will they feel comfortable in them? I'd suggest picking one or two thing from your list - as in the dress and the headband or the dress and the gloves. I'd also suggest going with a modern twist on the style - it's fairly popular right now, so look for 20s style dresses and you should find quite a few online. A dress with a dropped waist would probably convey the look you're going for, so search for dropped waist dress as well. The important thing is to not over so the theme!

There's not a shot in hell that I would wear that last dress.  Even if it weren't way more than I'm willing to spend to be dressed up by somebody else, it would be horribly unflattering on me and I do not wear dresses shorter than knee length, period.  It also looks cheap to me.

Those dresses are outrageously expensive!  No bridesmaid should be asked to spend that much for a costume.
