What time should ceremony start with having a brunch reception?

I'm sure this has been posted before but I went back as far as I could. I'm not sure what time our ceremony should start with us having a brunch reception (omelet station, pastries, ham, etc) ... I was thinking 11:00 but then thought that might be too late.

I would love some feedback! Thank you

Re: What time should ceremony start with having a brunch reception?

  • How long will your ceremony be?  Are your guests all local?
  • ceremony will be short - maybe 15 minutes and about 90% of guests are local

  • It sounds like you will be eating around 11:30, then?  I think that sounds fine.  One thing that would be a nice touch (although totally unnecessary if it's out of budget or won't work at your venue) would be to have light food out before the ceremony--maybe coffee and pastries.  I usually arrive 15-20 minutes before a wedding starts, and having a little food out while guests are waiting would be nice.
  • I'm also having a brunch reception after our 11am ceremony...we will probably eat around noon...which I thought would be still a good brunch time.  Our ceremony will last about 20 minutes...30 minutes for photos and breath-time...that would get us ready to eat right about noon or a little before.
  • 11am is prefect.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

We're having a Sunday brunch wedding at 11:00.  As guests come in, they can hit the coffee bar or get a cold drink and find their seats - we're seating people right at the tables they'll be eating at.  Thanks to another poster on the board, we are going to have mini pastries and fruit kabobs available on the tables.  The ceremony will start around 11:15, last 15 - 20 minutes, and then the brunch buffet will be available.

Oh - and there will be a bunch of kids at our wedding, so our centerpiece for the kids tables will be containers of cereal that they can snack on until it's their turn at the buffet.

    Take care,
    Kim
