HELP! Simple church needs decorating...

My fiance' and I have chosen to get married in a non-denominational church. It is absolutely adorable, built in the 1800's with a Colonial feel to it.

My only concern is decorating the alter / platform / stage / whatever you'd like to call it!
The space is very tiny, just large enough for my fiance', me, and our minister to stand... below is a photo. The chairs will not be on the platform.

What should we do that won't take up too much space but will really add something?? The church is winterized right now, which is why the photo looks dark... but there are great windows and the lights will be pointing right on the alter.

  • I think it looks beautiful, especially the way you described the lighting. Shoving some decoration in there may just make it look cheap.

  • The beauty of your church is its simplicity. I can see white candles with either white Lillie's or just greenery or both. No pastels. No fluffy flowers. No creepy pedestals.
  • Keep it simple. That is gorgeous as is.
  • I agree with PP's suggestions. We had simple greenery with white flowers for our wedding. Our florist also provided some white columns to put a couple arrangements on.

  • I think the simplicity is beautiful. If you'd like to do anything, think about maybe simple flowers. But, really, it's very attractive looking!
  • It's beautiful - I'd look into pillar candles with hurrican glasses and maybe some simple flowers or ivy leaves. Nothing too much.
  • Thank you all so much! My initial reaction was to keep it simple, as its' simplicity is its' beauty, but everyone kept trying to convince me it was too plain (fiance's and my family are both used to giant, decorated Catholic churches)

Thank you all for the reassurance!!!
