travel agent yea or nay

Trying to figure out the pros and the cons for using a travel agent for my honeymoon.  Any thoughts?

Re: travel agent yea or nay

  • I think it depends on where you are going, how well traveled you are, and what your personal preferences are. I personally think a good TA (there are certaily bad ones out there) are worth their weight in gold because if you are truly clueless about where to go and what best fits your needs, then a good TA can direct you to the right place. Even better, if you do know where you want to go, you can contact an agent that specializes in at area (example: Tahiti Tiare agents, Fiji Matai Agents, Hawaii destination specialist, Couples Resorts specialists) A good travel agent will also price match if in the off chance you happen to find the package price lower elsewhere. So, you're not only getting the best price, you also have someone who can assist with questions or issues if they come up. I know a lot of girls find good deals on here through online agencies like Expedia or through Costco but those places are useless when it comes to needing specific info about your destination.

  • My TA is awesome. She has been to the resort we are staying at and even helped refer us to which block of rooms is best and which activities are best. I would have taken a completely different direction if it weren't for her.

I think a TA is the best idea ever.

  • ive always traveled pretty extensively so i know how to research/book on my own but even i recognize the value of a great TA. i often know where /how i want to go and ask my TA to book. sometimes i get upgrades, room credits etc.. and sometimes not but she's always there if i need her and frankly, since i love her, id rather give her the commission than a faceless personless online travel site like expedia (which are also jsut online travel agents).

  • Definitely do it. My FI and I thought we could book online on our own and it was so overwhelming.  If you have AAA they have TA.  That's where we went and she was so helpful and got us an amazing deal.. If you go with a TA they can set up arrangements for you tu o/from airport or if you stay at more than one hotel they arrange transport too.
