500 in Alterations and still not what i want done

I bought a dress off the rack and was about 3 sizes too big, I want it brought in more at my legs so its more of a mermaid style, and my seamstress keeps telling me I can't do it, said she bring it in a little but that's it! It's already up 495 in alterations and I feel like I still haven't gotten what I wanted! I don't know what I should say to her to get what I want done?? And I feel like I'm spending way too much on Alternations.. Any help and suggestions would be great!

Hi Christine. I am a relatively good seamstress ( as a hobby) and here are my thoughts: Mermaid is a little tricky shape. Take a look at all the mermaid dresses pictures on the internet and you'll notice that almost all the models are standing with one leg bent in the knee and infront of the other. That's to enhance the mermaid shape, by pulling the dress at the knee. The dresses are not that tight and there are reasons for it. First : if it's too tight , it will be like walking with your knees tied up together. Try to walk around without separating your knees and you'll know what I mean. Second: when you sit, the tight part has to come up a little bit. If it's too tight and can't slide up , the b..t of the dress will just rip. With elastic fabrics you can go a little bit tighter, but otherwise - no.
On the picture at your last fitting, there is a fabric pinched from the sides. Is that what you want to take off, or what she will take off?
My advice : move around when you try the dress on. Don\t just stand . Walk, sit, dance. Strike a pose :) The real elegance of the dress is how you move in it and if you feel uncomfortable, you will not look elegant.
I would guess that those were her  considerations too.
