Yellow and Green Shoes

Hi everyone,
I'm in search of shoes for my bridesmaids.  They will be wearing navy dresses with yellow (canary) shoes and the matron of honor will be in green (apple) shoes.  The problem is finding the same shoe in both colors at a reasonable price.  We'd like to keep pricing below $50.  Any ideas would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!
Molly

Honestly, you probably aren't going to like this answer, but just buy neutral colored shoes.  A pair of nude or metallic shoes would look great with both of those dress colors.

And, if you are requiring a specific shoe, you have to pay for them. A BM should only be responsible for paying for her dress. Anything extra you require, you should be paying for.

This, and really, who would wear those colors of shoes ever again? Honestly, in retrospect I wish I wouldn't have even said anything about shoes. I asked my bridesmaids to wear any black shoe but I couldn't tell you now why I cared at all what was on their feet. It certainly doesn't show up in many of the pictures and nobody looks at feet. (Actually, I do, but I love shoes... but I don't check out my friends' shoes in pictures.)

  • Hmm... well this was not what I was expecting.  Their shoes will show up in all of my pictures, as their dresses are tea-length.  Since navy is the main color, I wanted to spice it up with pops of color on their feet.  And thankfully my friends are gracious enough to OFFER to buy their own shoes, I am not "requiring" that of them.

Anyone with ADVICE, not condescending opinons?  Thanks!
  • You technically are requiring them to purchase shoes since you want a specific color.  Not requiring that would be "hey ladies, wear whatever shoes you want as long as it looks good with the dress color."

If you want pops of color, ask them to purchase any show in any color they want.  I'm sure they could use their judgment in terms of which colors would look great with their dresses.

It isn't a condescending opinion to tell you proper etiquette.nbsp; Whether they offer or not, you are supposed to pay for them.nbsp; and even if their shoes show up, no one is going to care what they look like.nbsp; Probably not even you once the wedding is over and you get your photos back.

Add the pops of color in their flowers.nbsp; But, if you must... I suggest these shoes... they come in green and yellow.

ETA:  Ooops, they only come in darker green, not apple. But, they do come in yellow.

  • My bridesmaids wore knee-length, so their shoes show in the group shots. I'm still not looking at their feet, but at the faces of my friends. And my suggestion is to pay for the shoes yourself or to tell them to pick their own in X color. And I honestly would not wear yellow shoes ever again in my life, so they would be going straight to consignment when the wedding was over. I might wear green ones again. Maybe. If they didn't hurt.

I'm not sure why you're insistent both on those colors and having the style match. Shoes are super personal. For instance, flats kill my feet. I know other people who can't wear any kind of heel at all. And I think the only way you'll get what you want is to order white satin shoes and have them dyed. So your bridesmaids get to have green or yellow toes, yay!

And I take offense to you calling my opinions condescending. They're blunt, perhaps, but they're likely everything your bridesmaids are thinking but are unwilling to say to your face for fear of hurting your feelings. I mean, you're treating them like models or props instead of real people.

I agree 100% with this.  My sister who is my MOH can't wear heels because she has an arch problem and if she is in them for more than 10 minutes, her feet ache and she can't walk.  So she will most def be wearing flats and I don't care as long as she in comfortable.

And I def wouldn't wear those two color shoes again.  That's asking alot for BMs to buy shoes that they will only probably wear once.

First, you are not allowed to tell people how to post.  No one was condescending, in fact all the posters did give you advice, it was just not the advice you wanted to hear.

Second, I have to agree with the other posters.  The last thing that you will notice when looking at your wedding pictures are the shoes on your BMs feet.  What you should be focusing on is the happy, smiling faces of the people that are closest to you, not their foot wear.

If you do insist on them wearing a certain shoe in a certain color then you should pay for it.  As nice as they were to offer to pay, this should really be something you pay for.  If you would prefer not to pay for their shoes then simply tell them to wear whatever type of shoe that they want in X color.  That way they can all wear a shoe that is comfortable for them because one style shoe does not fit every persons foot.

In the end, I understand you wanting a pop of color but I would suggest doing that with the bouquets, not with the foot wear.  Have them either wear a nude or a silver shoe because this is something that they may already have in their closet and if not will most likely wear again if they had to buy a pair.

I found these ones and they come in apple green and canary yellow. Hopefully that link works. I've never put one in a comment before.

ETA: I just read that you wanted to keep it under $50. Sorry.

  • I wore these Nina's in a wedding this past weekend in the Grape Luster.

    They were not SUPER comfortable.

Also, we got ours at DSW for less than $40/pair.

I personally love the idea of green shoes. These look similar to the Nina, but slightly more affordable.
