PT Update - Muscles Still Very Tight

Hey ladies.  So PT is going great and I am able to practice putting pressure on the gas and brake pedal in the car and then gradually work my way up to driving again, yay!  But the muscle in the back of my ankle and near the area that I fractured are still very tight.  I have been doing all of the exercises that the therapist gave me to complete at home and I move my ankle around when I am just sitting around, but no matter what I do, they are so tight.  And when I walk, I'm still limping because of the tightness.  Any recommendations that you ladies can give me in terms of "getting rid of the tightness?"

And just a note, the cast came off last Monday and this is my second week in PT.

  • Is your PT having you do wall stretches as well as part of your program?  If not I can try to search for pics to attach, they will help too.

Yes, he has given my wall stretching exercises.  On the plus, everyone has said that I'm walking alot better, but I guess since I don't think I am I'm not believing them.

  • Stage, he actually put some on in the back of my ankle all the way up to my knee, basically from right on my heel to my knee and it did help when it was.  I was still stiff but not as badly.  I go again tomorrow so I'll ask him if he can put more on for the weekend.

  • To second xcalygrl, massages definitely help. I broke my ankle a year ago and I would put my foot/ankle in a tub of hot water (or take a nice bath!) and then massage the muscles around where I had broken it. Warming up my muscles made the massages not hurt as much. Also, I love kinesiotape. It's magical!
  • Thanks ladies!  I'm going to talk to my therapist tomorrow about buying the KT tape to put on at home.  And I'll continue stretching.  Hopefully it won't last too much longer because at this point its just frustrating and uncomfortable.
