Grooms step father

What is the role of the grooms step father and should he wear a tux if he is not in the wedding? My Fiances father will be in a tux but not sure what his step father is to do or wear...any ideas. I was thinking he could be an usher but I don't know if that is appropriate.

    It doesn't matter what he wears, but some men will prefer to wear matching tuxes because it means they don't have to worry about what to wear.  My dad was like this- he thought just renting the same tux the groomsmen were wearing was easier than digging out his suit and finding a matching tie and polishing his shoes and whatever.  So maybe just ask him what he'd prefer.  It'll look fine in pictures either way, though.

    My FIL wore an jacket in a unique shade of blue with a purple tie to our wedding. . . . My dad wore a black suit, DH and Groomsmen in gray suits. . . . . the pictures came out just fine.  As long as everyone is comfortable in what they are wearing I'm sure they'll look great!

    Maybe have your FI ask his sted dad whether he wants to coordinate or not, if you're really concerned, but I don't think it's necessary at all.
