Just Engaged and Proposals

Re: .

  • Congrats on your engagement.  Your ring is very pretty, but buying from Tiffany means your FI spent thousands of extra dollars on branding, which could have been spent on a much bigger diamond or just saved.

Here's an interesting article I read when BF and I started ring shopping.

Oh, I am SO glad someone else felt this way.

    I thought I was being too judge-y.

Fortunately OP, we're just internet strangers. I really hope you don't do this to your friends, though.

I would have congratulated you, but it seems you only wanted to talk to other girls with Tiffany rings! Seeing as how mine is over a hundred years old and a precious family heirloom with a tiny diamond, I didn't think I'd fit in your 'league'. :/

I just posted a friendly chat about Tiffany's and everyone's response was negative. I know everyone here loves to show off their rings and stories. Why do I immediately get negativity. I wasn't negative to anyone else why would you be that way towards me?

I did congratulate you and told you your ring was pretty.  I think your post rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.  If you had posted, "I love my ring.  My FI bought it from Tiffany" people would have said, nice ring and moved on.  But the way it was phrased didn't come off that well.  Also, I thought the article would be informative for you and other readers and it was on topic.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone posting about where their ring came from... It really came off as "ohhhh, look at how expensive my ring is!"

No one was trying to be negative. They were just responding to a post that could be (and will be) taken as rude. It just isn't a good way to introduce yourself.

I really hope this doesn't scare you off from the community.  This is really a site full of nice ladies who have really wonderful, no nonsense advice!

I'd really suggest lurking for a bit and getting a feel of the boards for a while.
I've been on the here since 2011 (way before we got engaged lol) And have only now started posting this month.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re:Any other brides with Tiffany's rings? Pics: Mine is a family heirloom too! I'd love to see pics of yours, older rings are so unique! My engagement ring catches eyes all the time because it's so different. It's fun to explain its history

Mine came from the Wilder family (Laura Ingalls (Little House on the Prarie) is my greatx3 grandmother by marriage. Her husband was Almanzo Wilder, and that's where we come in). I love everything about it, but the filigrie on the side is one part of my favorite, and the other part is the diamond. It is a fairly small diamond but as of right now, it has pretty much no chips, scratches, nothing.

The outside around the diamond is white gold so when it is shined/polished, it makes the diamond look about 3 times bigger. It's just a neat ring to me, fits me perfectly, and has held up insanely well.

Sorry OP - Didn't mean to steal your thunder! Your post came off as a little entitled, as you've been told. Come back and have a conversation about being engaged with us! Your ring isn't any less pretty..

  • Mine is also heirloom!! It was my grandma's wedding set. One of the five diamonds in the center was from her original ring from when they got married in the 40s, but this incarnation was commissioned for their 25th wedding anniversary:

We're keeping it in yellow gold for the engagement then the jeweler who made my mom's wedding set is going to recast it in white gold for the wedding.

  • Heehee I love it: The Heirloom Ring Club. Those are gorgeous rings!

  • ahstillwell - I've loved your ring since I first came on TK. Honestly, it's one of my favorites around here. Absolutely original and neat. When I got my ring, it was way too big (2.5 sizes), the prongs were almost broken, and I was so afraid to get it fixed, for some reason. I would be terrified to re-cast it. Does it make you nervous? I felt like I was.. I dunno, somehow doing an injustice to it by resizing it.

Pele - Your ring is so art deco to me. I absolutely love the uniqueness of it! It's different but absolutely classy and period-appropriate. Hats off to you!

cnf - That's a serious ring. I love the filigire on the side like mine has, they look pretty similar in that regard! I love the thickness of your band. Mine, on the underside, is PAPER thin. My jeweler/family friend swears it will never snap, but I'd still maybe like a thicker one one day. Perhaps my wedding ring will be better for it, a thicker 'companion'.

Hey thanks! My grandfathers last name is still Wilder, but he's the last one :/ I'm thinking of naming my boy that someday, God willing I have one. It's a source of pride for me :)

    Ahstillwell, that is gorgeous!!

Km, thanks! The setting was made in 1941, I'm almost certain, having heard some stories of their engagement. The stones were given to FI's grandfather from his aunt to have set into. No idea how long they've been in the family. The underside of mine is very thin too, but that's because when FI gave it to me it had her enhancer soldered to it. We had it removed after a while so I could get my own wedding ring to go with the engagement ring, but it left the underside very thin.

There's the whole thing that FI actually proposed with. His mom has the enhancer now and is going to have it made into something for herself since it was her mothers.
