June 2013 Weddings

Long enough

Okay, I've officially been engaged and planning this wedding for long enough! Seriously, I've started second guessing earlier decisions and last night I stayed up late (because I couldn't sleep) and I completely re-designed our wedding cake!

So today, when I went back to the bakery to pay the remaining balance of my order, I also pulled the trigger on all the new changes I came up with the night before and now have totally new design! I'm happy with it but also a bit disturbed at my eagerness to change everything about it, followed by the temporary puzzled feeling that came over me after I walked out... Should I have made all those changes? Eeeesh! This wedding just needs to happen already before I start changing other things!

p.s. completely unrelated, but this new TK format is nice but they removed the spell check? lame.

Re: Long enough

  • I understand how you're feeling. Now that we are under a month, I start worrying if there's anything that needs to be fixed while there is still time. I start worrying about little things. It's our big day right? We want it to be everything we dreamed of.

But let's talk about your cake change... If the changes made you happy then you probably should have done it. I don't know how long ago you finalized the cake but visions change. As long as it doesn't clash with everything else, I don't see a problem. We are allowed to change our minds (just don't go overboard). Take a deep breath, relax, and be confident in your decisions. At the end of the day, all that matters is you are married now. :) I hope this helps and congrats on the upcoming nuptials.

  • I feel the same way. I made many decisions very early and have gone back a number of times to change it. One decision I made early was my dress.... I love it, it's amazing. But it's so.... ME. It's not anything different than I would normally wear and I wish I kinda stepped out of the box on that one!

  • I've been making changes all year since I got engaged. First I started out with the vision to have light blue and silver as the colours.. but then I was going to have different shades of blue. Now I've finalized the colours to mostly violet/lavender and light blue lol.

One thing that never changed in my mind was my dress. It was the first thing I bought for the wedding, only 2 weeks after getting engaged, and while I've been watching so many wedding shows in the last year, I've never second guessed myself on that purchase.

  • I think my only decision I'm second guess is my cake as well. Its a simple but elegant white on white. I wanted something timeless. But I had to fit so hard with FMIL to get a real cake vs a fake one and I'm afraid its not "enough." Any changes though will probably cost an arm and a leg. I'm so torn on this one.

I could be wrong on what she meant, but it's becoming more and more common for the display cake to have 1 or more fake foam tiers covered with fondant and decorated to look like part of the cake. Then, there are separate sheet cakes in back used for serving to the guests. It's more cost-effective and if you're having an outdoor event, it decreases the chance of your tiered cake collapsing if it gets too warm. The sheet cakes are usually just done with buttercream icing, which I think is preferable because (in my opinion), fondant tastes awful.
  • I feel ya. I'm just ready for the wedding to be here so I can stop having to make decisions and stop second guessing decisions.
I had my final meeting with my photographers last night and that left me feeling reassured, thank God. I was stressing about the timeline of the ceremony/photos/reception. They assured me everything would run smoothly and they could get me to the reception by the time I requested and probably earlier, so that made me feel better because I was second guessing everything (except marrying the man of my dreams) when working on a day of timeline.
