Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Has anyone been there? I just booked our honeymoon for July and it looks beautiful. So excited!

Just looking for some tips/advice on things to do/see and what we should bring.

I've been to Puerto Plata!  It's BEAUTIFUL.  But I'll be honest, there's not a heck of a lot to do around there besides lay on the beach, which is totally awesome though

There were definitely some things to do nearby, but not a lot.  The Playa Dorato (I think) shopping center was nice to check out.  There's a small casino with a restaurant that looked liked fun!  There's also a small zoo/aquatic thing, the name escapes me.  They had some sea lion shows and other tropical animals to see.  My favorite part of that was seeing the dolphins!  I got to swim with them!  I highly recommend it!

If you're looking for more to do and have a rental car, I suggest taking a day trip to Santo Domingo.  I think it'll only take a couple hours to get there.  We didn't get the chance to go, but that's the capital, and there's a LOT more to see.

What resort are you staying at?  We stayed at a place in Luperon, which was an all-inclusive resort a little outside of Puerto Plata.  It was great!  It made it a little easier since there wasn't as much to do where we were. 

If you love the beach, you're going to have a FABULOUS time!  It's absolutely gorgeous there!
