bridesmaid dresses

Looking for suggestions for where to look for bridesmaid dresses. I have 7 bridesmaids with very different taste and body types. I do want them all in the same dress though. I went to Bridal Beginnings yesterday and made zero progress other than I do not want strapless. Anyone have any suggestions???

Re: bridesmaid dresses

  • It sounds like its definitely going to be difficult if you want everyone in the same dress, but yet they all have different body shapes and opinions. Keep in mind they are paying for the dress so you want to make sure they are comfortable in it. At the same time, they are supporting you on your big day so they should understand if not everyone is going to be 100% happy in the dress you pick. MB Bride in Greensburg has a big selection of bridesmaid dresses, I only looked there and at Bridal Beginnings so I guess I'm not much help.

We chose BIll Levkoff chiffon dresses in the same color, but all of my girls went with different styles that are cocktail length. Everyone was really happy with that because some styles made the bustier girls uncomfortable but other girls really liked them. I would suggest just being open to something like that if you don't have any luck deciding on one dress that fits everyone well. Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice. I am trying to be open to something like this -- it is hard, because I have this vision haha. But I am sure comfortable bridesmaids make happy bridesmaids!
  • Hey I was having the same problem until I found this. All BMs are happy with it. It comes with detachable straps for those who prefer straps. The modified sweetheart is not too low for the larger chested girls. It might take you a few times of shopping to figure it out. I first saw this dress at BB and passed it up for it being too plain for my vision at the time. Then MB Bride had a Jim Hjelm trunk show and I knew I wanted their luminescent chiffon fabric so I went out that weekend with just my mom and FMIL. I tried on that dress again and that's when I decided that was it. I am dressing it up with a sash for each of the girls with a pin for my MOH. Just an example of how I think it might just take a while for your vision to evolve into something that will mesh with all your girls. • We chose Bill Levkoff dresses, long, in satin. I let all of the girls pick whichever dress they wanted. Even though as store might not have it in stock, they can order all of the styles. 2 ordered theirs from Michael Bridal in North Hills, 2 are out of town so they went to other shops and my sister ordered hers from weddingshoppeinc.com and it's perfect.
  • I am surprised with Bridal Beginnings. That is where we went for ours and I was very excited. I have girls that range from the age of 12 to 32 in all different sizes. They were able to help us find us Barijay 412. I was DETERMINED to have all the girls in the same dress and be comfortable. As a pp said have detachable straps. I am making it mandatory that have strapless for the wedding and pictures, but at the reception they can put on the straps if they would like. Chiffon is very nice too.. Best of luck it can be stressful, but don't let them get to you. I know my sister and sister in law were very opinonated on everything esp the style. They won the color, but I won the dress.

  • I struggled to find the bridesmaids dresses I wanted as well. I didn't want to ask the girls to pay too much (and I can't afford to offer to put any money towards them) and so far that was probably the most stressful part of my planning.

I had originally looked at David's Bridal just because of the convenience (my BMs are scattered throughout the area) and didn't have any luck. My advice would be to consider dresses that aren't classified as bridesmaids dresses. The dress I ended up picking is under "Party Dresses" through David's and although they are not super formal, I am thrilled with them and the bridesmaids all say that they love it (whether or not they are telling the truth, I can't say Smile)

    Good luck!
