AW: A Thrift Shop Has Answered My Dress Prayers!

So, you've probably become sick of my posts about my dress dilemma: bought long dress with plans to cut it, it arrived and was too pretty to cut but my FILs were giving me a bit of slack about having a long dress for a court wedding. Blah blah.

Maybe it was the pressure (I'm a wuss), but the last time I tried it on, I didn't like it anymore. Even as a long dress. Even though it's stunning, I felt like it just wasn't my style (I got it used on ebay, and just didn't have very much choice when shopping). So, with two weeks till the wedding, I decided to go hunting in town for just one last shot. I went to a few ready-to-wear shops and decided to hit some thrift stores. And, there it was: a mint Dolly Couture dress!

I put this dress on and I feel beautiful, and I can't stop smiling. This is the kind of dress I would have bought had we not started planning our wedding last month; I've always pictured myself in a dress like this - and, it's short! So, it's all worked out.

So, thank you all for helping me with my dress woes and putting up with the constant posts! :)

There are some minor alterations that can be done, but I have tailoring experience, so I can bang those out this week. What do you think?

  • Whoops. I really suck at the internet. I replaced it with imgur links.

    And, thank you :)

[QUOTE]I'm glad you found something you are happy with. Your links don't show me pictures though, they just take me to the gmail login page.

  • Aww, you're so sweet. Thank you. :) My dress seems to be performing an optical illusion with regards to my legs, though; I'm actually just five-feet tall! And, I'm super excited to go shoe shopping. I was going to wear a pair that I already own, but nahhhh.
  • I can't say I'm not jealous. I bet it was a decent price too. I've been scouring the DC website in hopes or something that is a decent price for my wedding. It's super cute and you definatly need some awesome super cute sassy shoes
  • Beautiful! Fits you great! It really looks like a fun dress. I hope you have a great time on your wedding day!
  • SO ADORABLE!!! I LOOOOOOOOVE this outcome :) I am so incredibly happy that you found something that makes you feel beauty and fits both the formality and feel of your wedding. Congrats! Way to go bargain shopper!

Thank you so much! You're all so nice. I'm absolutely in love with the dress. :) It was more expensive than my original dress but, in total, I spent less than $350 on both of them.

lookame3639, I highly recommend searching used dresses on ebay. You'll find loads, and many of them are quite current. Search for dresses that are your size or a bit bigger, because they can be taken in to fit you perfectly. Also, search Sample Sale on Etsy, and you can find some reasonable dresses.

Now, my next question is: what qualifies as sassy? haha. I was thinking pink (like this [link]) purple (like this [link]) peep toes! Or, should I stick with my original plan to wear blue (like this [link])
  • Oh my gosh, you look fabulous!  What a great dress!  Perfect for a court wedding, or really any other wedding!

I can't believe you found it at a thrift shop, yay!!

It's a tough call on the shoes.  I'm wearing pink shoes, and love pink shoes because to me they're more girly and bridal.  But I also was really coveting some blue shoes too.  Blue is so fun!

  • Strappy heels or a fun color or sling back heels or peep toes all strike me as a sassy. For this dress id prefer peep toes or sling backs in a hot color, something that really pops.
  • It is perfect and you look great!  The pink shoes you linked would be perfect.

  • That is a great dress!  Good for you!  Yes - agreed on pink shoes.  Tres chic!

P.S. what will do you with those other two dresses?

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! It is super flattering and the lace makes it so classy and elegant even though it isn't full length.  Glad it worked out for you!

I really love those blue shoes, but I think I like the pink ones with the dress best.
  • WOW!!!  that is just beautiful and amazing on you, what an awesome find!

  • Thank you, ladies! Your lovely comments make me feel wonderful about my choice. :) You Knotties are great!

Thanks for the shoe advice, too. I really wish I could find those pink shoes in blue, but @Liatris, those Zappos shoes are SO CUTE. If I can get those shipped here in time, I'm totally getting those. Thanks! If not, I'll go for the pink. :) Super excited!
  • Gorgeous! (though I loved your other dress, too!)
  • Very cute and you look amazing in it!

I rarely comment, but I had to come out of hiding to tell you that is a great dress!  Plus I am the queen of thrift stores.

You look great - good job!
