Wedding Invitations & Paper

Parents Inviting People??

my FI and i are going to be paying for our wedding and are planning on having a pretty small wedding.

the ceremony will be in his parents backyard with just family and some friends.
the reception will be later on at a hall/grange.

when discussing save the dates and invites with my stepmother she asked me if i wanted her to send me a list of people to invite and i pretty much told her no because we were going to keep it small.

should i explain to her that i havent seen her family in forever and dont really want to invite them or should i just leave it be.

i feel bad because she has been there for me but some of her family i havent seen in over ten years. what do i do?!

Re: Parents Inviting People??

  • If she's not paying, she has no say over the guest list.  You're perfectly fine to just tell her it's small and that you'll be handling the guest list.

That said, if you have the space and budget, I would try to throw her a bone.  I don't mean invite her whole family, but I would try to invite just her parents or maybe a closest sibling.  Again, not a requirement, but it could be a nice gesture.
