XP - Dress Cleaning

Ok I bought a real nice short (wedding) dress, but it reeked of cigarette smoke.  I took it to the cleaners and they did a pretty good job but I can still smell smoke faintly.

Any suggestions on what I might do?  I don't want to shell out another $20 for cleaning.

I thought I read somewhere I could spray it with Febreeze...but I wanted to hear what others would say/suggest.

Re: XP - Dress Cleaning

  • Just my luck a bird would fly by and crap on it! :)
  • Some ways to get rid of cigarrete smoke are cputting the item near or in a bag with charcoal (pet stores carry charcoal packs for fish filters some have white cotton around the charcoal to prevent staining the dress) putting the item in a bag with kitty litter, putting the item in a bag with baking soda (much like a refrigerator pack) and letting the item air outside. Kitty llitter I have heard works the best but with a dress id be a little worried itd get ruined somehow. Your best bet would be air it out under something that blocks the sun.
  • I definitely wouldn't spray it with Febreze unless you test a small spot first. If it's satin the Febreze will leave spots. Do you have a space in your house you can hang it to let it air out and possibly put the charcoal or kitty litter nearby to absorb the smell?

Any particular brand?  I know there is one with baking soda I believe.  The cats that we had decades ago were outside cats so we never did the kitty litter bit.

I think any clay based litter is fine. I would go ahead and spend a little extra and get the kind with baking soda.
