Budget? Number of people you are going to invite?

There are lots of good places, but some are very expensive/very small/very large.

we haven't really discussed a budget cause he wants to wait and see how much the places are to get an idea but it will probably be around 200-250

ceremony and reception in the same location? or separate? If you are looking for separate, there is a link at the top of the page (re-posting here: http://pghknotties.googlepages.com/vendors

Grand hall at the priory works, but I think you have to have guests sit at reception tables during the ceremony.  Hotels like The Renaissance, Fairmont, and Omni william Penn could work, but those are all pretty pricey.  LeMont is more affordable (restaurant on mt washington) and I *think* fits that many for a ceremony and reception...but 250 might be a lot for their ceremony/cocktail hr setup.  Phipps could host an outdoor ceremony/indoor reception (i think that size).  The Gateway Clipper ships could do it as well, but there isn't a great rain plan for their outdoor ceremony.

For larger weddings, people recommend the circuit center, but I dont know about ceremonies.  And I know nothing about venues just outside the city.  Someone else will chime in I'm sure :)  Congrats on your engagement and best of luck!

Also, IF the date in your bio is correct (April 27th) that's Pitt's graduation weekend...I'd book hotels/hotel blocks and such ASAP.

We are having our ceremony and reception at the Grand Hall at the Priory.  Most guests will be seated at their dinner tables suring the reception and they will set up about 20 chairs in the front for close family and friends.  I was worried about how that would look at first, btu I'm so happy with the venue that I am looking past it :)

We looked at the Grand Hall. It's really pretty, but way out of our budget and the courtyard where you COULD have the ceremony is tiny. I think it was a $15k min for food and drink on a Saturday night.

Most of the hotels up here are around the same. $10k min. for food and drink on a Saturday.

Try Hartwood Acres. We were going to go there also, but they don't have a plan B for rain so hopefully you rent an extra tent just in case. The rental of the property is cheap if you don't get a tent from them. I think it's $650 to rent the entire Hartwood Mansion grounds, but then you have to rent a tent from them or an outside company, chairs, tables, linens, glassware, a bar, an outside caterer, servers, bartenders, PA systems, alcohol permit, extra tent for the caterer, etc. It adds up too fast. You also have to be out of the park by 7pm and can't set up until about 10:30 I believe. If you don't care about all of that, then it's a really BEAUTIFUL venue. I was in tears just walking around the grounds.

You can also look into North Park and the state parks up here.

Where are you in WV? I'm in Pittsburgh and actually having my wedding in WV! Everything is way cheaper down there. A tent from a big rental company up here is hundreds more than the rental company in WV.

Do you have family here? Is that why you are choosing Pittsburgh? There are so many beautiful places in WV! We also looked into Daniels Vineyard in WV and actualy visited. It was very beauitiful, but not everyone wanted to travel there. Boo! I think that's close to you!

It's a quick drive from Youngstown, OH to Wheeling, WV.  My FI and I went to a wedding at the Presyby church at the bottom of the hill by Oglebay Resort, and the reception was at Oglebay.  We drove from the Boardman area to the church in ~2 hours.
Anyway, the food was good and the reception was very nice.  I don't know if they do ceremonies though.

I don't know if this is in your area/ etc but I just booked with the holiday inn in moon twp - they have 2 different ballrooms (one is gorgeous! and one is very large).  They offer you to rent the other room for a ceremony if you'd like.  They had a sit down option and a buffet option.  Their website is http://www.hipittsburghweddings.com.  Allison coordinates it all and she is fabulous to work with.  The package includes everything from open bar to cake to flower centerpieces.  Also right now if you book by October 1 they are offering 15% off and an extra 5 free rooms (1 free room is included with the package).  It's something to consider!  I attached a couple pics I took for planning :)  I have more pics if you want to see them and I can offer some (though small because we just started planning) input

I just had my June 4th wedding at The Chadwick in Wexford: http://chadwickevents.com/

We had our ceremony on their outdoor patio. And, our reception was inside in one of their ballrooms. Our package we chose also had a shuttle for our guests from a hotel in Cranberry which was awesome for out-of-town guests!

Good luck & Happy planning :)

My fiance and I are getting married at the Renaissance in a few weeks.  We are currently living in New Jersey, and I would VERY highly recommend them for out-of-town brides.  They've made everything so easy and I feel very very confident we'll have an amazing wedding day!

We booked our reception at Riverside Landing in Oakmont.  We want to find a ceremony spot that's close.  We don't go to church and would love to find an outside spot.  Problem is, you have to have a backup plan for rain and I don't want to turn my reception hall into a ceremony site too.  HELP!

<div>You can do ceremonies at Oglebay, we've had a few friends do it there and it's gorgeous.  We're getting married in FI's hometown of Brilliant, OH (a few miles south of Steubenville) and the reception will be at River City Ale Works in downtown Wheeling.  We're really happy with our choice - everything is included, the banquet coordinators are responsive and helpful, and there are numerous places to stay within a 15-minute range, including Oglebay.  If you haven't found a place yet, I'd suggest checking it out.  We're from out of town as well (we live in Columbus) and they've made things really easy so far.  </div>
