What do you think?

My photog emailed me and told me everyone loves my wedding images and thinks they're stunning blah blah blah. He said this hair salon owner he knows wants to use an image of me in my gown on her website on the services page.. I told him I'm hesitant cause I don't want anyone thinking she did my hair and makeup and I LOVE the company who did mine and don't want a company I don't even know taking credit for their work. Does this seem unreasonable? He was fine with it but I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing and wasn't being too controlling. It just seemed odd to me that a hair salon would use a competitors work on their website..

  • Your reasoning makes sense to me. Why would the salon even want your photo if they didn't do your hair/makeup? I wouldn't want to support that kind of dishonesty.

  • Makes sense to me.  That would be dishonest advertising.

  • Once I mentioned them crediting my stylist he backed off so I feel like she was definitely trying to take credit for it.

  • I would not let any business put wedding pictures of me on their website unless they were my vendors or they paid me money AND credited my vendors.
  • Moonlight my H said the same thing. I do modeling on the side and any time a website or magazine wants to use images for their benefit they pay me and the photog to do so. I think my wedding photog was thrown off that I wasn't blinded by the compliment and immediately willing to let the woman use my image lol

  • It's common for people to utilize stock photos for websites etc... I think it's odd that a salon doesn't want to showcase their own work with a client they did for a wedding tho

  • Oh, absolutely not.  That's really odd and inappropriate.  It's not your job to monitor it, but I'd let YOUR stylist know that this question came up because they may want to be on the lookout for this person trying to take credit for their work.
  • I wonder if he was trying to sell your image to them as stock photography? Either way, I think you definitely did the right thing. I would consider it misleading and false advertising.

Yeah no way would I let this salon use a photo if no one at that salon did your hair or makeup. While I understand salons often use stock images, I think the average user would look at the site and assume it's the salons work, unless it's a Redken add or Naomi Campbell on the photo. You did the right thing.
