Have the older children as bridesmaids/groomsmen, ushers, or readers.

#1, Have you asked the younger children if they want to be a ring bearer and flower girl? You should never assume that they'd be thrilled to participate, especially if they are not mutually your and your FI's children. You should also ask their bio mom/dad if it's okay for them to participate in your wedding.

#2, 14 and 20 is more than old enough to be a bridesmaid if you ask, and they want to (Why is it that they "can't"?)

#3, Your children do not need a "job" in the wedding to feel special. Having them as honored guests (and perhaps giving them each a small gift prior to the ceremony) is more than enough.

  • Yes, why CAN'T they be in the wedding party?

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Also confused why they can't be bridesmaids? If you're thinking 14 is too young, she could be a jr. bridesmaid and the 20 y/o a reg. bridesmaid. Or if you've already chosen your attendants, you could add them - you don't need to have the same # of people on both sides. If you're not having bridesmaids/groomsmen, you could get them involved as ushers, readers, etc. I ushered my cousin's wedding at 15 y/o and I definitely felt very involved.

There's no such thing as a junior bridesmaid. All that is required of a bridesmaid is to walk down the aisle, stand at the altar, and hold your bouquet. Why would she need to be designated as "junior"? A girl of 14 (presumably in high school) is more than mature enough to be a bridesmaid.

Having ushers is silly for the reason of just giving someone a "job" to do.

I hope the OP comes back and explains the scenario.

  • I want to know why they can't be BMs?    For the life of me i cant figure out what the reason could be?

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

I've seen junior bridesmaids in weddings - they DO exist!! It's the bride's preference whether or not to designate as such

Yes, there is such thing as a junior bridesmaid. I know because I've been one.

  • I'm going to take a wild guess here that they "can't" be bridesmaids because then the sides will be uneven. Now, tjwedding, please prove me wrong and tell me your and your groom's children are more important to you than numbers.
