AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!

Okay talk about having the Monday night from hell... I get off work and go to future MIL's house for dinner with my fiance and hang out with the family including his sister who just got married... All is fine... We got home and my fiance checks his car and finds that not only is his stereo face plate missing but so are all of our phone and ipod chargers that he had in the car for when we go on road trips and etc... He comes in the door and immediately checks the cameras and finds some punk breaking into his car and stealing his stuff at 4AM!!!! We are both steamed and the police are not any help and FI is so mad that he wants to go out "hunting"... Not that I blame him but it looks like any and all relaxation is off the table for tonight with the mood that he is in...

Re: AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!

  • Linger my fiance took the day off from work to do things around the house and work on a project for a client. He keeps the faceplate out of sight in the center console. His habit is that if it is a short trip over to his mom and dad's (4 blocks away) he does not put in the stereo.

The police are not any help because they refused to look at the footage and all they did was talk to him... The footage showed the guy going for my car as well (thank god my alarm was armed and the lights blinked at him) leaving a hand print on my window... Yeah they would not go and take prints or do anything.

My fiance does not want our insurance to go up so he does not want to report it. I do not know his reasoning considering he put a lot of time into making our car ours as far as comfort and convenience... I told him last night and he agrees with me on this,,, We should not have to downgrade our stuff just because of some thief running around in our neighborhood,,, We worked hard for what we have and for someone to go and take it from us is not right nor is it okay. I told him that we need to get a better alarm for his car and that we need to get a better security system.
  • Indeed it is a major PITA Stage and we are mad as all heck over it because of the time and money we put into it together. My fiance was heated and he still is and we are forced to buy a new stereo and all that... It could have been worse and thankfully the car itself was not damaged other than around the lock itself but still... The could have smashed a window or cut our interior. Thank god they did not do that because we are working on paying off our baby!
  • I still want to know why you have security cameras.  Are you the president or something?
  • Security cameras are very common these days. I live in a very nice community, but bc we can't become gated due to our HOA fees tripling to do so, we get the "trash" lingering in too. Our park was vandalized repeatedly to the point we couldn't let kids go there. So they put in cameras. I'd say 75% of the homes in my neighborhood have cameras on the driveways and front entry's now for added security. We had a guy going door to door trying to sell security systems for some company no one ever heard of. Someone told him "sure I need to take your picture before I let you in, please look up at my camera" and he took off. Turns it he was wanted locally for robbery. Our HOA also caught the guys vandalizing the park and raiding the local vacant homes... He is now in jail

Unless you mean discarded bottles and cans and plastic bags are wandering into your neighborhood causing mayhem, I find this to be a really shitty thing to say.

This bothered me too, thanks for putting it into words.

  • We live in a new neighborhood and have the same problem with trash.  When they built it, they took down all of the trees, so there's nothing to block the wind. It's very windy.  Peoples trash flies around, and I found both our trash and recycling bins across the street and down the hill two weeks in a row.

This is what you're talking about, right?

Our neighborhood is one of those 'trashy' ungated ones, and we have wind problems because there is a canal nearby (which is kickass to walk along, but, nutherstory).

Our yard is scientifically positioned to funnel all of the street's debris into the left side-yard, next to the raise garden.  It's usually annoying and well... trashy.  On SUPER windy days?  It gets hilarious.  Pools, beachballs, clothing, etc ends up in our side-yard.  One day after a storm, we found a recycling bin.  I left it on our curb so the owner could pick it up, but it must have  travelled all the way from Oz, and nobody came for it.  So, now we have a recycling bin.

  • To answer your question  cmgilpin the reasoning for the cameras is not only our new car but what we have in our home and office... We have thousands of dollars in electronics as well as my grandmother's jewelry which is not replaceable. To top it all off my fiance works on electronics and has at times his client's things in the office that he is fixing. So not only are we protecting our things but the things that my fiance is working on for clients.
  • I don't understand why you have the cameras when you seem averse to filing an insurance claim? Clearly, the cameras didn't deter the thieves....
