Angel, or anyone else who'd be interested in gf flourless chocolate cake

Thought you might like this! It's super delicious and so easy to make.

Disclaimer, yes, this is from my cooking blog. I do not advertise or make money from it. I am not a vendor. Angel and I both eat gluten free and I thought she'd like this. Even if you don't eat gf, this cake is amazing.

Or the lives of others ;)

Thanks Buzz.  H and I are eating gluten free on the advice of his doctor.  I'm just along for the support, but actually I've been feeling pretty good.

Hi Marrin! Long time no " see".  The GF switch has been great for me so far. Good luck to you and your husband's diet switch. I noticed the biggest difference around a month when my joint pain went away, which is mostly the reason I gave this lifestyle a try. As far as  I'm concerned, I'm not going back to gluten. It's so nice to not be in pain every day.

  • Ooh, Angel there's a restaurant in Whitby called "Bella Notte" and they have an amaaazing flourless chocolate lava cake. It's to die for.
  • Awesome!!!! Thanks!

I'm always on an epic search for restaurants where I can eat dessert! I've looked at their menu before, but never been.

  • Angel - if you have a Roy's nearby, check them out.  They were at the Celiac walk last weekend, and their GF menu is not only huge, but they have GF brownies for dessert.

  • Thanks @peekaboo2011, but @kristbot and I reside in the great white north outside of Toronto, so we don't have a lot of your chains. :-( I do love indulging on holidays down there though, so I'll keep that name in mind!

  • I am going to have to stock up on some of these recipes as one of my dearest friends is allergic to gluten... Thank you for sharing :)

Awright, this cake is in my oven at this very moment.  I wanted a sinfully chocolate cake ready for our romantic getaway this weekend ^_^.

I have to straight up admit that this was me while I was mixing the batter:

  • Can I ask, does GF taste much different than "normal" foods?? Do you happen to have any GF cookie recipes? I love to make treats for my friends but have a friend who is strictly GF, Id love to surprise her.

    thanks :-)

This cake is pretty dense. That's probably the biggest difference. It's not a light and fluffy cake. It's like a much denser fudgy style brownie and is probably even more chocolatey. It's pretty delicious, you can't go wrong with it.

Pele, I hope yours comes out good! I admit I was almost like that too with the batter. I tried not to eat toooo much of it because of the 7 eggs.... but there was tasting going on when the batter was poured into the springform pan. :)

ETA: This cake was my first attempt at GF baking. There are many more store bought mixes now available if your grocery store has a gluten free section in it. I do a lot of cooking blog reading, particularly now the GF ones, and most "from scratch" cookie and baking recipes combine multiple different flours for the best results. This can get expensive if you don't want to commit to this type of baking. For your first try, I'd probably just stick with a store bought mix. Rob's Red Mill makes good ones. I've heard Bisqick also makes a gf version now. The Pamela brand is also good. (I made all those clicky to link you to them)

I've found cookies to be really tricky to work with.  And I'll be completely honest with you, I'm not particularly adventurous lately.  That being said, Betty Crocker makes fantastic GF mixes - yellow/chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, and brownies.  You could definitely modify the chocolate chip cookie mix to include some other stuff if you wanted (peanut butter chips, nuts, whatever) as long as you read the ingredients/contamination information.

  • Jillian just be careful with cross contamination, if you're going to make something for your friend. I've gotten sick a couple of times because a well meaning friend has made me something and wasn't well enough informed.

You need to make sure all cooking utensils, bowls and pans are scrubbed clean before using. Flour can stick in the corners of baking pans and scratches in plastic bowls. Good luck!
