XP - Nacho Bar or Snow Cones

I know we have a little over a year before our wedding, but just recently after looking over our budget we had to cut out having a DJ and a sit down dinner. We were originally set the time of the ceremony to be 5:30, but since we aren't able to have dinner, we are going to have the ceremony at 2:30. It will be the middle of June where the ceremony will be outdoors and the reception will be inside.

We were considering either having a snack nacho bar or snow cones. I called the snow cone vendor and she is already booking up into next summer because she's the only vendor around here. I can put a deposit down and if we change our minds and get the deposit back as long as we cancel within two months of the date. So this leads to my question.

Hot(80s to 90s) June day wedding. Assuming guests will have eating lunch, would you prefer snow cones(50 different flavors) or a nacho bar(chips, cheese, meat, sour cream, and salsa.)?

Thanks for your input!

Re: XP - Nacho Bar or Snow Cones

  • In terms of time of year, weather, etc. I would totally prefer snow cones.

However, both options are pretty messy - I would be worried they would drip on me or I would be a klutz and drop something on myself (which is highly likely for me). Depending on how dressed up I'd be, this could be problematic. If this is more of a low-key, backyard wedding (or its equivalent in another setting), I'd totally be down. If I'm in a cocktail dress and heels, not sure how I would feel.

It's not fancy by any means. If it works out the way we are thinking now the MOH and BMs would wear sun dresses and the BM and GMs would wear khaki shorts and a button up shirt.

Also - the snow cone lady has those flower cups that the sides catch the drips. We would probably have the dip for the nachos in a bowl and individual bags of tortilla chips from Sam's Club.

    Edited: more clarity

  • Snow cones!!!  (But I love snow cones and don't like nachos, so, yeah, I'm not exactly unbiased here.)  But I think snow cones just sound nicer for a hot summer day anyway.
  • Snow cones sounds awesome! I love nachos too though!!! I would prefer the snow cones in the heat however.

  • Snow cones, simply because in the heat, nachos will sit like a ton of bricks in your stomach and probably make your guests feel -awful-.  Plus, sour cream and drippy cheese all over the place?  Yikes!
  • You can def get a DJ for cheap if you shop around. I'd much rather attend a wedding that had a DJ then a nacho bar or sno cone bar. What are you doing for music? I think the general consensus is that most guests prefer music of some sort- more preferably DJ or band, if not, ipod. I think you should look into options for affordable DJ's rather than a nacho bar or snow cone bar.

  • To me it would depend on what else you're serving. I need something somewhat substantial in my belly when I'm drinking. So I would prefer nachos. But if you're serving adequate amounts of "real" food then the snow cones would be awesome.
