Honeymoon Jar?

Is it ok to have a cutely decorated jar or some other type of cute holder on the gift table at the reception labeled as a honeymoon fund?

It would not be necessary but if guests WANTED to put money in it  they could?

Would it be better to just have all monetary gifts collected in a more generic "wishing well"/bird cage/card box type thing?

No!  It's rude to ask for money.  Haven't your guests spent enough on you already??
  • I would skip the honeymoon jar and just do a card box of some kind.

  • Seriously?

No, that is nowhere near acceptable.
  • If people have decided to give you money as their gift, they will have done that before they got to your wedding, and probably put it in the card.  They know that there is a chance you will take a honeymoon - you don't need to spell it out for them and request money for it.  Be grateful for any gifts you get (monetary included) and spend it on your honeymoon if that is what you wish to do.

I swear, Pinterest helps spread bad ideas even faster than before.

  • The "cute holder on the gift table at the reception labeled as a honeymoon fund" should not be labeled anything, and please please please especially not "fund" anything. It is wise to have a box or container on your gift table so that your guests have a place to put the cards they brought you. There may or may not be money inside the cards.

haha ok ladies I get it - absolutely won't happen!

Thanks!  I always get honest feedback here!
  • Yes. Everything rude is ok as long as it is cute, has a cute poem, or a cute sign.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Ooh does that include me? I will totally wear a cute poem around my neck if it would make me appear less rude!

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

Falling in love with Addie is one of the most important steps to becoming a reg. True facts.
100% true! Addie is amazing. I've almost PMed her two or three times just to get her to give me her opinions on some of the crazy stuff my cousin and others have brought up in this wedding planning for the last few weeks!

I have no idea why but I imagined you saying this like Curly from the Three Stooges
  • Hahaha!  Thanks, ladies!  And @fionahalliwell, you are more than welcome to!  I get a lot of those help-me- with- my-crazy- family PMs!

@Gustafson28 That is pretty funny b/c that's exactly how I said it in my head!

Addie is the most likeable person on TK.  I'd be jealous if  I didn't like her so much :P.  Curse your charm powers Addie!!!

And @Mstallae, I meant what I said.  Your willingness to keep an open mind, listen to advice, and make adjustments will make your wedding awesome!  Mine was going to be a trainwreck to start with, but I made a lot of changes for guest comfort (per advice here), and everyone had a freakin blast.  Made me all warm and fuzzy seeing so much fun-having at my wedding.

And I loved your post in solidarity.
  • There are some cute card boxes on pintrest.  I made one that kinda looks like a wedding cake and that was a cute DIY addition to the gift table.

This is not okay.  "Cuteness" does not mitigate that it is never polite to expect your guests to pay for anything, let alone your honeymoon.  That's your personal financial obligation.
  • No bad idea, as others have said it's rude.
