Conflicted with my "Something Old"

For my wedding I really want to save on a veil by using my moms veil from her wedding. Problem is that it has a flower crown sewn to it. I don't want the flowers because I'm not that much of a girly girl and rather to just have a comb on the veil to put in my hair. The flowers are also really faded and crushed from being in the box for many years. My question is if it's possible to get the crown taken out of the veil and attached to a hair comb. I don't want to ruin the veil or make it shorter than what it is. The length is perfect for me.
Can someone tell me if this is possible to do? Otherwise I need to figure out what to do for my "something old".

  • It's hard to give advice not knowing exactly what the construction of the veil is, but if it is sewn, it seems like removing the crown would be a matter of simply (and carefully) clipping the threads that attach the flowers to the veil and removing it. If just the threads only are clipped and not the netting, it shouldn't damage the veil at all.
