Nerdy Outdoor Spring wedding on a budget... Can it be done?

Help! I'm getting married next May and my fiancé and I are on a tight budget. We are both movie nerds and just nerds in general. We have so many interests that we want to incorporate but aren't quite sure how. We narrowed it down to just a movie themed reception, but the only venue we can afford is a park. It's beautiful and we want to accentuate the natural beauty and let it do most of the decoration for us rather than force a theme that doesn't really go. We want mostly black and white decor with pops of the different colors of the rainbow. We are catering ourselves and love the idea of a picnic wedding with both a popcorn and candy buffet as well. Any ideas to add little nerdy touches? We have plenty of time but because most everything is DIY we need a plan of action. I so appreciate any input anyone can give. Thanks so much!!

Oh, there are lots of ways to incorporate little touches here and there.  A big one is how you do the tables.  I assume picnic tables as it is a picnic wedding?  You could name tables after your favourite characters in your movies, or just pic a movie and go with it.  You can also make your table decor part of your theme.  For example, one of the girls in my Wedding Month board is doing Beauty and the Beast and for her centerpieces has a rose under a glass.

What about using empty movie cases as part of your centerpieces as well?  Some people use books, but DVDs can be used too!  Just make sure they are empty so no one makes off with them!  And if it is in a park, are there enough movies that have a nature theme?  Like Jurassic Park?

Or, if you have escort cards, put them in one of those DVD stands.  Just some ideas . . .

You have a lot of themes going on there. Movie, picnic, rainbow, and nerd. Honestly I'd first try to choose one main theme and one accent one. That way you can center all your decorations around one theme and add little touches of the other one.

I'd say focus on the colors, since the picnic and nerd aspects will shine through anyway :)

I agree, try to simpfly what what you want to incorporate. It will help your budget & your stress level. Either go picnic or black/white w/pops of color. They are so extremely in themes you kind of need to go with one or the other.
