Reception-Only Invitation Wording?

First off I am aware what I am talking about is not considered an actual reception, more of a party, but I am referring to it as a reception anyways.

So we plan on having a small private ceremony in City Hall on Wednesday. We are only inviting our parents and siblings to the ceremony itself and taking them out for dinner that night. I already have the wording down for their invitations but there is another issue. This reception/party we are having is going to be on the Saturday afternoon so we can celebrate with our extended family and friends who could not be invited to the ceremony.

I am confused how I should word them. Online some people say to put "You are invited to celebrate the Marriage of X and X. They were married in a private ceremony on X"... then provide time and place information.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • This has been very helpful. I've been googling and posting on other websites to get some ideas and for some reason people told me to not even mention when the actual ceremony took place... I found that to be a little more confusing because they might not clue in on the fact that this is only a party.
