DIY invite help

So I would love to try and do my own invitations. I really like the idea of using cards and pockets' pocket invites but I have no idea where to start.

Here are my questions-

- How on earth do I design this thing? Could my cousin design this on photoshop? I don't have any programs on my computer besides word and that's not going to work for me.

- I have no printer, so it would make sense just to have cards and pockets print it or someone else? If someone else, where should I get paper from?

- How hard is it to mount the mounting and invite on the pocket fold? Did anyone have trouble with this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Hey!

I designed my invites using photoshop.  If you are planning on doing the signature pocketfold, I can send you/your cousin my files as templates - I have an invitation file template, and templates for 2 inserts and an RSVP card.

I'm buying my paper from cardsandpockets.com.  There are other places (lcipaper and paperandmore), but I liked Cardsandpockets paper samples and pocketfold samples the best, and they matched best w/ my colors.  Cardsandpockets has a print shop, but I found them to be pricier than FedEx Kinko's, at least for my design, so I'm using Kinko's.

no clue on mounting yet...but if you do the cardsand pockets print shop, they will do the mounting for you for an extra fee, i think.

I designed my invitations and pocket inserts in microsoft word- it can be done! The tips I would give are- text boxes are your friend and download fancy fonts from the internet. If you want, I can PM you my templates.

I bought all my materials from C&P. I printed on 8.5" x 11" cardstock (although you can buy pre-cut)  on my home printer and the turned out great. If you decide to get a printer and print at home, I would try to avoid metallic finish papers for printing- the ink takes longer to dry and I had issues with smearing.

For mounting- I swear by glue dots. They are amazing! I got them at Michaels, although AC Moore has them cheaper. I would avoid the Elmer's brand sticky tape, it didn't work so well for me (especially with metallic paper, which was my backing).

    HTH! Good luck!

Thanks you guys! Would you all mind sending me your templates? My email is sarilynnep@yahoo.com

As for cutting the paper, if I buy it pre-cut will kinkos still be able to print on that paper? And if I don't buy pre-cut, how difficult is it to cut each one exaclty to size?

Kinkos should be able to print on pre-cut 5x7's, but it never hurts to call and ask!

An easier option might be to purchase "normal" sized sheets of card stock and have your invites printed two to a page.  Kinkos should then be able to cut them for you for a small fee (Staples charges 20 cents a page to do the same service).

Good luck with what you're working on!  If you're looking for neat, free fonts www.dafont.com is a wonderful resource.  I use it all the time for things at work, and it can really make a difference!

Sari... another idea (because there's NO way I have the creativity to design my own invites) --  I purchased digital files on Etsy.

FI actually found the invite on Etsy and I fell in love.  Coincidentally, they're a Pgh Etsy seller!  /> />clicky<<  I highly, highly recommend her shop.  The digital file route was great for us!

As far as printing, we used an online printing site.  It saved a LOT of headache.

I designed my own wedding stationery in Adobe Illustrator and purchased paper from www.paperpresentation.com - they have a wonderful selection of paper sizes, formats, colors, etc. and I think their prices are pretty darn good.  Hope that helps!  Good luck!
