All Inclusive Mexico - Booking Hotel & Flight Separately

For our honeymoon, DH and I are looking to stay at the Excellence Riviera Cancun for 7 nights. We want to use our new Disney Visa to book to earn points towards our Disney vacation in early 2014. Due to the credit limit on the card, we would have to book flights and hotel separately. Has anyone done this before? Is it really cost prohibitive or not make a difference? Can you still purchase trip insurance and make do an airport/hotel transfer? We have the cash to pay for the honeymoon, this would just help discount our next vacation :-) And we can't raise the credit limit on the card because we just got it. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: All Inclusive Mexico - Booking Hotel & Flight Separately

  • I always book hotel and flight seperately. I've priced them out both ways (seperate and combined) and have not seen a price difference.

You can still purchase trip insurance. I always do one policy through resort one policy through airline. You can also go to insuremytrip.com and choose which policy works best for your needs.

As for transfers, check with your resort first when you book your room as there is usually an option to add on round trip transport from and to airport. If not there are plenty of reputable companies in MX that you can book your transport from (online). USA transfers, Best Day Travel and Lomas to name a few.

We just got back from Cancun two months ago (our second time there). I booked our room first (Real Resorts The Royal Cancun) with the option of round trip ground transport. Then a few months later booked the flight. I then contacted the transport company and gave them our flight info. All of that was done online and via email.

I also booked our excursions online (Cancun Vista) to Coba and Tulum(not the combo tour) as well as a snorkeling tour.

I do have two reviews and a ton of pics as well as travel tips in the link above my siggy pic if you would like to check it out.
  • you certainly can book them separately. sometimes there is a difference vs booking as a package in price so i would check that out. have you checked allinclusiveoutlet.com? they're very good.

and yes i 2nd insuremytrip.com ive used it for years. you just put the costs for the trip in and then see policies side by side

  • Can you book them together as a package, and just make 2 separate payments on the package? You might have to call a travel agent to do this over the phone, but it would let you take advantage of any package discounts.
