*Boutonniere Flowers?*

Good morning ladies!

I need your opinions! :) What are your thoughts on having the guys wear rose boutonnieres, if the flowers for the wedding are gerbera daisies? Do you think it would clash? I just don't like the idea of having the gerbs as boutonnieres, & would prefer roses, yet obviously don't want them to look out of place. I think if the roses were to look out of place, I'd rather go with no boutonnieres at all. Or is that also a 'no no?' Any thoughts?

  • I think if you're not using any other roses, it would look odd. Not everyone is going to notice something like that (perhaps very few people even would), but I know it would bug me.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Are you using any other flowers besides gerber daisies?

Gerber daisies would be a bad choice for bouts anyways seeing as they will wilt very quickly when out of water.

I like @Liatris2010 suggestion of using pocket squares instead if you want to forgo bouts all together.

Having a gerbera daisy as a bout would remind me of a clown with the fake water-squirting flower.

What about just some simple ferns, leaves, and other greenery? Google "greenery boutonnieres" and there are some really great classy yet casual options.

  • You could do pocket squares instead of bouts. I don't know a lot about flowers, but to me roses are a lot more formal than gerbera daisies. What about button mums for the bouts instead?
We are doing green button mums for the boutonnieres.  I think the simple look would compliment gerbera daisies, and they are really inexpensive!  Think something like this...

Thanks ladies! I agree that the gerbs wouldn't look formal as boutonnieres. That's why I was on the fence with the roses, or no bouts at all. I agree with Addie though, that I think the roses on the guys will bug me with the rest of the flowers being gerberas.

The button mums would be perfect if my FI's tie wasn't lime green. I think it would be too much with the green tie, and I'm not a fan of the mums in white. I think what we're going to end up doing, after reading all of your posts, is just go for the pocket squares for my FI and the guys. They're simple, & nice, and still add the extra accessory to the tux! :)

Thanks again for all of your input! It's nice to get some suggestions when you just can't decide! Xo! :)

  • @JMalettas - We used gerbera daisies for our bouts.  They used the minis rather than the large full size ones.  All the bouquets were gerberas as well.

They actually lasted the full day without looking wilted.

  •  I didn't know that you could get mini gerbs! Do you have a pic you could post by chance? If not, no biggie, but I would love to see how they would look as boutonnieres! Our flowers for the wedding are in lime green & orange. What were your colours? :)
