Riviera Maya honeymoon

Hi all,

The FH and I have decided that we want to go to an all inclusive resort in Mexico for the honeymoon.  I have looked at Excellence, Secrets, and Sandles resorts and they all look amazing!  We want a nice beach, with a good honeymoon package, and fun excursions (dolphin swim, camel ride, snorkeling, sight seeing).  Where have you all been, or where are you all going?  We are meeting with a travel agent next week, and I want to give him some ideas.  Thanks!

Re: Riviera Maya honeymoon

  • We are looking at Secrets and Iberostar Grand Hotel Playa Paraiso! We are really leaning towards the Honeymoon Villa at Iberostar - but they both look amazing!  I don't remember reading anything about dolphin swims or camel rides on the Ibesotar website ....but Secrets looks like it has a lot of unique options for activities like Mayan ziplining.

  • Sandals does not have properties in the Riviera Maya. Secrets and Excellence does, as does El Dorado (Karisma) and as pp mentioned, Iberostar Grand. All are adults only (Iberostar does have other properties that are not, though. What is your budget? Some of the properties are a bit more expensive than others. I have been to a few personally.

  • where did you see camel rides?

ive been going every year for the last 10 and have never heard of that. as far as the other excursions (dolphin swim, snorkeling, site seeing) you can do that no matter where you stay.

what's your budget? what do you want in particular AT THE RESORTS?

no sandals on riviera maya. what do you consider to be a 'good honeymoon package'?

  • I stayed at Now Jade and I have to say it was nice. There are 5 different types of inclusive restaurants, and the beach front is quiet, they also have a classy spa but I didn't get any services done so I can't say anything. I did stay over the winter holidays and the staff was super nice and they had activities that you could do all day and evening.

I've been to both resort grounds; although when at Iberostar I stayed in Del Mar.  The nice thing about the Grand is that you have access to all of the other hotels; Secrets Maroma is amazing but if you wanted to have more options, the Grand would be a good choice!
  • We're doing El Dorado casitas!

We are leaving for the Riviera Maya a week from Sunday and are staying at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa resort. Looks beautiful and gets great reviews. Not as high end as Sandals or Excellence, so it was a lot more affordable but it DEFINITELY isn't dumpy. When we get back from our HM I will give a review. :)

  • Sounds like a lot of fun!
  • I really liked the Barcelo Maya.

  • I went to the Grand Sunset Princess in April. I really enjoyed it and we had a room with swim out privileges. We had 5-6 stairs off our balcony that led directly into the pool and had a pool lounger in the water. Was absolutely amazing.
  • There are a ton of different things to see and do in the Rivera Maya. I've been to the area twice over the last few years and have an entry in my travel blog here on the different tours and other sightseeing that I have done. I highly recommend that you visit at least one of the Mayan ruin sites. The most impressive to me were Chichen Itza and Ek Balam.
  • We went on vacation to Rivera Maya El Dorado Seaside Suites in March 2013. It was nice, beach wasn't anything to cheer about. I would try somewhere else. My friend went to Secrets Maroma on her honeymoon last year and couldn't stop talking about how great it was.

Enjoy! Yes, tell us how it went!
  • The El Dorado Maroma would seriously be PERFECT for you.  It's a boutique adults-only on Maroma beach (voted one of the top beaches in Mexico). It's all-inclusive, but a premium, gourmet all-inclusive with amazing food.  we stayed in the honeymoon suite and just loved it (wasn't our honeymoon, just a romantic getaway).  they even have swim-up suites.  AND, it's right next to the Maroma Marina which is where many people come for snorkeling excursions, camel rides, jet skiing, etc.  Seriously check it out, and when you book with the right travel agent you can get free honeymoon perks like breakfast in bed, candlelight dinner on the beach, upgraded wines and some other stuff.  Totally loved it.  Look at Fox World Travel or Funjet and they can find you something I'm sure.
  • We are also looking at Riviera Maya for our honeymoon this December. We are currently torn between Secrets Maroma and Excellence Riviera Cancun.
