Toiletry baskets

So I'm all about the details and making sure our guests are spoiled - I want I provide those toiletry baskets that women love in the bathroom. I know there are standard items - bobby pins, hair spray, lotion, floss - but do you have any suggestions of things you'd be really happy to see in a toiletry basket? Preferably nothing communal, like mouthwash or deodorant.

And do you think men would appreciate one? Would they use it? If yes, what would you put in the basket?

  • Ah, for the reception? For a minute I thought you meant in the hotel, and I was all, "I'm pretty sure your hotel will have that covered..."

Just ideas: breath mints, blotting papers, mouthwash (with Dixie cups)?

Mints, gum, tampons and hair ties. Maybe some nice hand lotion.

Honestly, we had one and I cant remember what was in it.

  • We did do deodorant, but it was a spray, as well as some feminine body spray and axe for the guys. I'll admit we went a little overboard on ours, but it was at my parents' house and as they entertain a lot, we knew everything would eventually get used. We also were planning for people's needs according to the venue, so sunscreen and bug spray came in handy, but most weddings probably don't need to worry about those... What I would say is more applicable across the board is toothpicks, clear nail polish, bandaids, and ibuprofen.

Good call on the clear nail polish, @Jenni8412!

Great suggestions everyone - keep 'em coming!

I'm also adding combs and Tide pens.

I was thinking of picking up some plastic collar stays for the guys, too. Think they'd get used?

    Why is this so fun?

I'm not exactly sure, but I sure enjoy putting stuff like this together - our guest bath is stocked better than a hotel convenience bar!

The only specific thing I can think of is the nice blisterblock type bandaids. The ones that actually stay on!

Probably a travel size package of baby wipes and wet ones/antibacterial wipes too.

  • That's nice of you to provide this! It's a great idea.

I bought items for the courtesy baskets at Dollar Tree store.

For women, several packs of shoe inserts, heel guards that protect shoes from rubbing, bandaids, tampons, sanitary napkins, feminine wipes, breath mints, clear and white nail polish, spray deodorant, mouthwash and small cups, cheap sewing kit, Hollywood tape, hand lotion, tylenol. advil and tums, nail clippers, emery boards. The tylenol, advil, breath mints and tampons and a pack of the shoe inserts, emery boards  mouthwash were used. I know most women carry their own necessities, but needing a tampon and not having one could ruin someone's day and the women that needed tylenol really appreciated that there was some available.

For men, shoe inserts, heel gards, bandaids, breath mints, mouthwash and cups, nail clippers, spray deodorant, advil, tylenol, tums. The heel guards, nail clippers, tylenol and breath mints were opened.

All the items were things that would be used, eventually, so they didn't go to waste. My daughter took the leftovers home. I used baskets that I found at home. The total for the items that I purchased was less than $60, since most came from Dollar Tree store.

  • I did all of the same items as PPs, but did the spray deoderant also, and I bought 10 travel size mouthwashes.  I added a tide stain pen to both baskets as well.

Lint brush.....cornstarch/powder, which came to the rescue when oil was spilled on a leather purse; soaked the oil right up!  Individual tooth flossers.  Because every BM wore contacts, we included a travel size bottle of lens solution.  I had also found a small package of rubber and disc backs for earrings that came to the rescue.
  • I really love this idea. I might steal it.

Do it! I just had a blast shopping for items at Dollar Tree over my lunch break. Good call, @MairePoppy!

  • Some of these, please! I don't like mints.
