Invitations and the Bride's Name

Hi, everyone!

I'm getting married in April 2014 and my fiance and I are now working on our invites. We found an invitation and vendor that we absolutely love. The question has come up how our names will be written. My parents are hosting the wedding and it seems traditional that, when the parents are hosting, that the bride's name is [First name] [Middle name] while the groom has [First][Middle][Last].

Both my fiance and father have brought up that they believe my full name should be included on the invitation. I'm afraid that this may be misinterpreted as I'm not taking his last name. In addition, my full maiden name is very long and I'm afraid of it being too dominant on the wedding invitation.

Is there any advice people can offer on the bride's name in this case?

Re: Invitations and the Bride's Name

  • Your full name goes on the invite, including the last. Nobody is going to read anything into it being on there. Think about the last time you sat down and psychoanalyized someone's wedding invite. You probably never have because nobody does.

  • Nowadays most wedding invitations include the full names of both bride and groom. I have never heard of people thinking including the bride's full name would mean she's not taking the groom's name once married.
  • Also, it's your wedding invitation-----it's about you and your FI! So I'm not sure why you'd be worried that your name will look "too dominant" on it if it's written out in full.
