Giant Garter?!

Hello, 

I just got engaged about a month ago.  I am not a small girl. I wear about a size 18 dress so you can do the math.

My biggest area on my body is my hips and thighs.  I love the Garter toss idea, and want to have a garter but the idea of having a garder that someone could wear a a belt or a headband makes me SUPER self conscious.  I wondered if any of you had ideas about this or what you do about it. 

My thought was maybe have a fancier garter to keep that is placed high, and then get one that is not as fancy for the toss and to keep it maybe below my knee even so that it's not stretched or real big. (my calf is probably the size of most women's thigh). What do you think about this idea and/or what are your ideas?

I think most brides have two garters - one to keep and one to toss. I'm planning to order from this etsy shop where you can measure your thigh and then tell her the size that you want and it's custom. I'm assuming both don't need to be the same size and you could wear one lower so it's not stretched out or large. I'm with you - I don't want some drunk smart butt to get it and wear it like a necklace or something.

OMG Thank you so much, I hadn't even considered that.  I've been researching plus sized garters and was just going to do that, but I would be mortified if someone was wearing the garter as a headband or neckless. UGH! So happy I checked this out.  I'm just going to do one to put around my calf.

Have you thought about making your own? Its not to hard and its a lot cheaper.
